I've owned three of the 58s...the first one I bought the weekend before the '68 gun law took effect...my LGS told me he couldn't let me sign Mama's name in the bound book anymore...now it would be federal time if they caught him...but he gave me heads up to buy just one more. I bought the 58 and 3 bx shells. When I went back to buy more ammo the next week, he asked me what I was using for hearing protection...my smart 19-yr-old answer was "HUH???" I almost didn't make it into the Corps, and almost didn't pass the police physical...something wrong with my hearing, it seems.

The other two I bought hoping to have converted to .44 spl and armoloyed...project never happened. I still like 'em. Basically a Model 10 with an attitude!!!

It was a nice piece, though, and in retrospect...I shoulda bought it.
Remember how cheap the 520s were going for originally, we had a hell of a time even selling them, now they're asking $1500/1600. That's crazy.

Just sold my 5906 with square trigger guard and rear sight guards to purchase my PPQ. It sat in the safe the last 20 years and rarely came out. Wonder if I will regret that some day?

I had to look it up, couldn’t think of what it was...

Yeah, that would be a sweet carry gun.

There’s someone on the MN Armslist that had a 6” 386 advertised for a while; they wanted north of $1k, iirc...

Well, I used to be married to a couger but what strikes me most about this thread is the lack of light weight plastic. Apparently modern aficionados are panzees and can't handle the extra weight off metal?

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure within the last year I was shopping them at Bud's, but that are now Out Of Stock. Maybe they finally have been discontinued.

Remember the S&W Model 10 4 inch HBs that were made for NYSP? They were actually chambered for 357 Mag.

Yes. I agree. It hasn't been too long ago I looked at a new one at a LGS. I think they had a couple on the self, I may go back and see if they might still have one. You never know.

    HI Dan
Roy Jinks' book specifically mentions the Model 10-6 as being sold to the NYSP. Chambered in .357 Magnum and marked as Model 10-6. The Model 13-1 became a standard model in September 1974.
NYSP Ordered about 1200 units, but decided to opt for the S&W Model 28
They also ordered the Model 520, but never got em delivered to them. While working at Coleman's in Danvers mass, the store had 5 of them, brand new, for about 235.00 each. What a dummy I was to not take one (or 2) at that time... Geeesh.
