I like them both, too, but this was done for improved concealment. It doesn't look like much, but it should be less obvious than a sharp point.

Some people say that the sharp butt of a 1911 pokes them in the rib cage when carrying IWB. I've never had that problem, but I did want to reduce the profile.

If I had a "safe queen" 1911, I doubt I would ever do this.

By the way, I also got rid of of the stupid Wilson "faux" front strap checkering. I think highly of Wilson but I'm not sure what they were thinking with this one.

So, I'm either going to learn to do checkering or find another alternative for the front strap. I have a set of Pearce finger grooves so that might be the answer.

    Nice neat job.

Brownells makes it pretty simple and fail safe to do your own front strap hand checkering.

The 1911 is an antiquated weapons system but then again, so am I.

Slight update: I ordered a checkering file last night. I've had it up to here with that crappy Wilson fake checkering. It helps, but it's a bit too "Bubba" for me. I also don't like the idea of sending the gun off for 6+ weeks and paying $200.00 or more to have it done. If I'm ever going to learn, now is the time.

You should be afraid . . . be very afraid. Fortunately for you (and probably me), I let this one slip past me somehow. I must really be getting old.
