I carry a gun because it's legal to do so, and I never know when I might end up at a gun range throughout the day. And if I didn't have a gun with me, I would have to watch everyone else shoot their guns and that would suck.

I carry a gun for the same reason I have a spare tire for my car, never know when you will need it.

I carry a gun because it is the only way I can think of to have one always immediately available should I need it.

I am pretty sure that the people who were recently stabbed to death and cut had a thought run through their head like "I sure wish I had a gun" or something to that affect. For those that say carrying a gun for self defense is a God given right, I say No, it really isnt. The Congress, the executive and the courts can take them away instantly if you are not paying attention and voting.

Anti-gun people pray for a cop to show up with a gun when they are being attacked.

Nice write up. Great comments all. I feel like I don’t need a reason.

I've been carrying for close to 40 years most of those years as a requirement of my job. My answer to the question is why not carry a gun?

I carry a gun because I might not have time to call for a cop and wait until he gets there to protect me. The officers that I know encourage me to carry a weapon for that very reason. They respect my judgement and I respect the law and I carry because of the kind of people who don't respect human life.

And even if you could carry one, he'd be under no obligation to protect you.

The only common sense gun legislation was written about 229 years ago.

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

LtCol Dave Grossman sums up my beliefs more accurately than anything I have ever read or heard:

I favor myself as an aging sheepdog...there was a day I could either out-fight or out-run a threat...can't do that anymore.

I started I carry a handgun 33 years when I figure out I could no long fight like I once could and even if you win your hands or mostly useless for a few more days and I could not run as fast as I once could ether ! Odd thing is once I started to CC and no long found a reason to get in to fights and did not need to run any more .
