Each to one's own. I would have already fired on step one. I mean if I had the front sight already, I would have all I need. And my front sight picture is not razor sharp any more, but you just have to see it, you don't have to admire it. Just MHO.

That is how I do it as well. See the front sight and the dot is there. I assumed everyone did but then I saw a couple guys at the range that were obviously "chasing the dot". I also do not think it would matter much if the dot just went away while shooting as you would just see the irons that are co-witnessed. 25 yards and beyond it would certainly open up my groups if the dot went away.

But yeah, the dot ceasing to work is not the major calamity that some make it out to be. Unless of course you can't use the irons due to vision problems. Can't do much about that anyway.

But why not the rear sights that are built into the micro red dots?

I have several Romeo's with the "sight" built in. And on my X5, it took the rear sight away to mount. So I've tried to use it just to see if it's functional. They don't work for me. Way to low profile and blacked out. If I get a gun that retains the rear sights, I can install what works for me, if need be.

I use the Shield dot with a G19 MOS and cowitness factory sights. Not a problem using either site.
