There isn't a dang thing wrong with your American Tactical, it's a very good rendition of the M1911A1. All it needs to be "muy bueno" is a set of the old Keyes Fiber plastic stocks. https://simpsonltd.com/late-remingto...-1911a1-grips/

I agree completely, Dan ! Thanks for the link, Dan. They're on my list. (I also forgot to insert a seven round, flush fit mag for the photo.) Dang it.

    It doesn't look cheap. I think it's a sharp looking 1911, PhaedrusIV.

May be lower cost, but the proof is always in how they run. Nothing warms my gun heart more than a bargain firearm that shoots good. I think I shoot my very similar Rock Island as much as any other 1911 I own.

I never saw much sense in buying "pretty" guns. I took a buddy and his fancy Weatherby shotgun chukar hunting in the Snake River Canyon. I asked him if he really wanted to use it, and he rewarded me with a 30-minute spiel about how great a gun it was.

So after a dozen slips, slides, and tumbles down the rocky slopes of the canyons, it looked just like any other beat-up shotgun your grandpa might dig out of the cellar. Using the butt of your shotgun as a drag anchor will do that. The only "pretty" left in it was how pretty beat up it was.

Thanks, @Old Man . This on actually runs very well, BTW. Here's her first time out, at seven yards. Shoots POA.

I have several Rockies myself, and I've been very pleased with them as well.

My problem is never where the gun shoots but where I aim!

I didn't know that they came with the stock screw bushings for the thin stocks, made it nice to be able to use a set of my ivories. First impressions, very well built, not a cheap part on them anywhere, even the original stocks are factory Hogue. They remind me a great deal of Les Baers (not quite as tight) and Ed Brown's (not quite as loose). Now I wish I had gotten one sooner.

Hope to run it through it's paces Friday.

    WooHoo, Dan!!!

Congrats, and welcome to the fold! A man of your discriminating taste is bound to appreciate the virtues of a DW 1911! Next, you're likely to run across a nice ol' DW revolver, and you'll REALLY be hooked!

I've heard of guys becoming downright fanatical about DW's!!!

    Rugers

Came across these pics while looking at some of my old files and thought I would throw them up on this thread. I've owned three Ruger 1911s: SR1911 5", SR1911 Commander, and SR1911 Commander LWT. The Commander with steel frame has seemed to have disappeared following one of my son's visits, haha! All three were fine pistols that went down the road after a while.

I changed out the grips on the full size to Alumagrip clear thins and on the LWT Commander to thin micarta black and grey sunburst pattern. Gave them a little different appearance than the stock walnut grips I think. I actually didn't like either, as they were too thin. The buyers seemed to like them when I sold them, so I guess everyone was happy!
