How many mags do you carry?

So I have finally completed all requirements for my ccw in san bernardino county California. As I am looking at mag holsters to carry, this brings up a question.. How many spare mags do you guys carry? Obviously one will be in the gun.. Is one more sufficient, or do I need to consider more? Excited to be a new ccw holder and exercise my 2nd amendment right.

One spare mag for me. Hope and pray I'm never in a position to find out I needed more.

One in the weapon and one to three on the belt. Slow to reload from the pocket.

Most people seem ok with one extra mag. It also depends on what your magazine capacity is. E.g. if you have 12-16 rounds per magazine w/chamber - no extra magazine might be sufficient for you. However, you might have a malfunction in which the quickest fix is a magazine change.

If you have a single stack with only 6-9 rounds per mag, for example, you would be advised to carry extras.

I'm in California so unfortunately I am limited to 10 rounds.. Which has me leaning toward 3 mags total.... That would give me 30 rounds total, hoping I'll never need to use that many.

I myself carry one extra magazine. I don't own any single stack pistols, but if I was to carry one I would prefer two spare. I carry a FNS 9 which has 12+1 with the flush magazine and on my weak side I carry a full size 17 round magazine. I feel pretty well prepared for most unlikely encounters. Some say "if you can't do it with 6 then you won't do it with 17" and others say the opposite. I say you carry what you think you might need.

A spare magazine serves two purposes. First being more ammunition and the second is to have a means to deal with a malfunction. If you have a double feed or something like that then you can quickly replace the magazine with a known good one. Very unlikely that you would need spare ammo in a self defense situations, but I would personally feel mortified if I had a slide lock and the threat was still there with nothing left. Just my opinion.
