Seems like if you could have a bore-aligned laser dot on a spot on the wall, and practice your trigger pull, you would be able to see very clearly at what point in the trigger pull your dot starts to move off-target, and maybe be able to analyze that more closely.

I've never actually tried this, but I've been thinking about whether that might be a viable way of doing a finer resolution diagnosis of trigger pull issues.

I'm probably over complicating things, as usual...
It works, same concept as using a Crimson Trace or other laser sight or a red dot sight.

If one can not properly apply the fundamentals in slow fire. They are not going to be able to apply the fundamentals when someone is trying to kill them.

    Aim small, miss small.

The OP could probably be well served with a smaller target as well(aside from whatever the fundamental issue is). I like to draw plus signs with a Sharpie about 3"x3". I just use an index card as the straight edge to draw them. Aim for the intersection. Small targets give you a smaller point to aim for and that greater focus shrinks groups.

Also agree, finger pad placement makes no difference, as long as you can achieve good trigger pull. I have big hands/long fingers and my finger rests of the trigger right past the first joint and I can still get a smooth straight back trigger pull. Finger placement will be different for each person and a good instructor can guide you on that. Myself, never had "formal" instruction, just figured out what position was natural and gave the best trigger pull. You can easily find this by dry firing, with or without a laser trainer. Point at a target (unloaded), pull the trigger and see if your sights move off target. If you can keep sights on target while dry firing, but then pull on live fire, could be shot anticipation. There are a lot a variables, just have to find whats throwing your shots off.

Lest we forget stacking coin/s on the barrel while dry firing to assess smoothness or lack thereof.

Itís likely finger placement. But first, get a tighter grip. You should be able to squeeze off 10 rounds without adjusting your grip even the slightest amount.

No way I could ever be capable of such a thing - ten rounds without adjustment.

I can't hit anything if it's out of range. Week handed gets even worser, more worser than bad grammer.
