Is your knife on the same side as your firearm?

The "Benchmade EDC" thread showed two different preferences for carrying a knife. One carried on the same side as his handgun and another decided to carry on the opposite side.

When I started with ccw, I switched where my knife normally clipped from my right front pocket to my left front pocket. I did this after a LEO mentioned that it might be important to be able to use the other hand if the gun hand were tied up or injured. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

When I carry a fixed blade, itís on the opposite side. In the days I donít carry a fixed, itís on my right side. My light goes in my left pocket.

I carry a large folder clipped to my right front pocket with just a quickstrip in the pocket. Left front pocket is my small wallet and a SAK Classic pocket knife. Leatherman on belt left side and flashlight right next to it. Right side of belt is a Crossbreed speedloader pouch with a Tuff quickstrip pouch just behind it. 642 carried AIWB in a Philster City special. That's it and that's all...so far. Trying to fit a left hand gun in somewhere eventually.

My primary gun is carried at 3:00 on my belt. My secondary gun is in my right front pocket. My Spyderco Police folder is clipped in my right rear pocket. I kept loosing knifes when I carried them clipped in my left rear pocket because they would catch on the seatbelt when I got out of the vehicle and drop on the ground.

I have always carried my knife on my support side. I finally found one that fits just right.

I carry a fixed blade, which could be accessed from either hand, but is geared for non-dominate use. I also carry a folder, on my belt, which is mainly accessed with my dominate hand.

    Which knife? Which firearm?

There is no wrong answer here.

Gun carried on right hip. If a fixed blade, on left side. Folding knife, right front pocket.

I always carry a fixed blade at 11:00 for "get off me" purposes.

    That being said...

I do have 6 knives on my person today.

    Because I can.

For a defensive knife, usually a fixed blade, I always carry it on my weak side. I started doing this years before I ever carried a gun though. It was originally through need since I am left-handed and knives always come with a right handed sheath. It just worked out well that I end up carrying a knife on the weak side. After so many years, it is just natural for me to reach to the right to draw a knife that if I ever wore one on the dominant side, it would confuse me.

I do always carry a traditional style pocket knife in my left front pocket but that is for daily chores and not at all defensive.
