    Kukri

I ordered an 11” Panawal kukri from Kailash blades a couple weeks ago. I went with a rosewood handle, satin finish, performance grind.
Yesterday I got an email from them, a bladesmith named Bishnu Thapa, saying he had started on my blade, and he attached pics of it in its early stage. The floor of the place sure looks primitive.
    It’s authentic Nepalese for sure.
    Should be another few weeks...

Such primitive looking conditions, but they have camera and email.

I hope you'll post pictures of the finished product when you get it.

Really cool to see your actual blade being made.

I've watched a couple of those videos on youtube and it's fascinating what someone can do with so little.
    And no OSHA.

That's some beautiful work, especially considering how it was accomplished and with so little.

Anyone have any recommendations regarding treatment for the unstabilized rosewood grip? Oil, varnish, urethane?

    That could be interesting.
In the videos I've watched the builder doesn't do a lot of his own hammering. He holds the blade on that little anvil you see in your picture and there is a guy on either side of him with a sledge hammer taking turns giving it a whack.

I’d be willing to bet these guys could do everything themselves, if they needed to. And could come up with a hell of a product, using only hand tools and a grinder.
