This might be a bit of overkill for home defense

    This is some serious hardware....

(VIDEO) 20mm anti-tank rifle penetrates 16 steel plates

This video shows the amazing power of a 20mm anti-tank rifle as it fires at 16 quarter-inch steel plates, demonstrating the unsurpassed amount of penetration it can do. As seen by the slow motion clip, it penetrated six of the plates with some pretty hefty holes. Considering the ammunition is 80-years-old, the damage is pretty impressive.

    Pretty impressive.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

We had one of these little "snubbies" up on the roof on a pedestal mount many years ago. Someone took a shot at me when I lit a cigarette standing guard there. I puffed a few more times hoping he would shoot again so I might see the muzzle flash. Guess he was too smart for that. I was hoping to empty the belt from this 40mm grenade launcher his way. We traded for it with the River Patrol Boats.

I think it is evaluated by how many houses to passes through not how much sheetrock.

Might even be more effective than 45ACP! Naw, nothing beats 45ACP.

If they made a 9mm version it would be alot more effective due to advancements in bullet technology.

Id be concerned about running FMJs through it, what with over-penetration and all...

Reminds me of the Solothurn S18-1000 that Henry Bowman owned in the book, "Unintended Consequences". The book has a picture of an ad in a magazine of this cannon. It also has a picture of a 4-Bore with ammo laying on a Cape Buffalo taken with that gun. Beside the 4-Bore cartridge is a round of .375 H&H. Looks like mother hen with her chick. The 4-Bore fired a 1700 grain bullet, generating a little over 30,000 ft/lbs of energy.
