5" Colt 1911. .45 acp. I could do all the additional things it might need later, myself (ambi safety, fitted barrel, improved trigger, etc) . Parts and ammo are inexpensive, and plentiful. Can load it with "range practice ammo", to hot SD ammo.

My thinking on this changes often, but right now I am leaning toward a Walther P99 AS 9mm Compact, which I may actually buy soon. I think it is the Glock 26 of the DA/SA world.

If this is one gun for all situations, it would be hard not to say my M69 44 mag. Or any of my 357 choices. If it was a social thing only, 229 in 357 Sig or SP-01 In .40

I don't train to fight some street urchin, I train to fight the evil version of myself, and that person scares me, because I know the time I put into my training on how to beat him.

I currently carry an XD-9 Sub.

But if I had to choose only one, it would be my Springfield Range Officer .45

If we are talking about one pistol for all scenarios including concealed carry I would go with the Springfield XDS 9.
It conceals well with an 8+1, I can get a 9+1 (what little good that would be), it is reliable, it is accurate, and I could always carry spare mags if more is a concern.

Ruger LCR 327 mag. It will work when I can only pocket carry or can change to a full size grip for good iwb carry. 6 rounds vs 5 for pocket carry in a magnum caliber is a plus.

Ruger Mark IV, with a suppressor, use it to get whatever else I wanted.

    A 3Ē Colt Combat Python.

Which I would then sell and buy a LOT of handguns...

(I know, thatís not in the spirit of the question...so, my one gun to rule them all?

HK USP9 Expert w/jet funnel. I recently picked one up, and it is, by far, one of the most accurate factory pistols I have ever laid hands on.

It outshoots my Baer. It outshoots my P7ís. It outshoots PC revolvers, and my Python.

And, being a USP, itís rugged as Hades.
