Is it me, or was there another update?

I checked my settings and I am supposed to receive e-mails for new posts to subscribed threads.

I did finally find out what was happening on my end. E-mail decided DC was spam.

Note to self, check the spam box first.

Recently I too have stopped getting messages when threads to which I subscribe have new posts. I set "instant notification by email" as my standard long ago, have always received notifications until the last few days, and have made no changes to my DC forum settings. I checked my "junk" folder and the messages are not being diverted there.

I'd check every folder but the inbox and sent to make sure. Also check your virus protection to see if it created a filter for defensivecarry.com

I'm kind of surprised a DC person has not chimed in yet on this thread.

Did all that. Plus, no changes to my internet security settings. I check my mail on the server, so no download of messages to block anyway.

I haven't recieved any E Mails from new threads/posts. The only one a EVER get is from the Word Association Thread. That's it, nothing else. I periodically get a message that me E Mails have benn bouncing back. I've checked my Anti Virus and DC isn't on the block list. YES, I'm very surprised the Admin or Assist Admin hasn't picked up on this.

I PM'd the moderator of this thread a couple days after I posted and received no response. Still no reply.

I don't have any other suggestions for you, at least none I am willing to have you share on an open forum (security).

Until you figure it out, set your bookmark for this website to that page (it will force you to log in first if you have your settings to clear history on closing).

Which now has me thinking....

Might be something updates with your internet program. Unlikely, but possible.

Try doing a little house cleaning.

Internet options/clear history, cookies, temp files/folders.

Start/Run/%temp%...

In the window that opens with all the files, right click once anywhere in the file list (right pane)/Ctrl+A/delete. There will be one or two files/folders that can not be deleted. Rinse and repeat after clicking OK a couple more times. You will want to save and close all open files/programs before doing this.

Start/search for "Disc Cleanup" and run that. DO NOT SELECT the system restore points.

May as well run a defragment while you are at it. Won't help the current problem, but if you don't have it done on a fairly regular basis, it's good maintenance.

I have used a Comcast mail ID since before I joined this forum. I guess it is theoretically possible that Comcast made some kind of change after 9+ years. I will attempt to check it out with them.

OK, I found a spam blocker that is user-controlled, no reference to any imposed separately by Comcast. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/spam-filters-and-email-blocking/ shows how to look at the settings through the Comcast Webmail page. Obviously if you use a client like Outlook or Thunderbird, you won't see it. I have 3 Comcast mail accounts; the spam blocker is "off" on all of them.

Using Comcast here...Then again, I've been using Comcast long before this started happening... I was getting updates to all th ethreads I posted to, and that's going back since I became a Member of the Forum in 2005

It is a problem with your internet service provider deciding that DC emails are spam - usually something to do with an updated certificate of one kind or another needed. My ISP is frontiernet and they have always been sticklers about senders' email being verified.

Currently I am using one of my Yahoo email addresses to receive the notifications from DC. It still works, at least as of this morning!

What is interesting is that frontiernet changed from their own email system to "powered by Yahoo", but they must still be making their own rules because they (frontier) have totally blocked not only DC emails but ALSO emails from my naturopath, and she for darned sure doesn't send out a lot of emails!

I have heard from a couple friends that gmail is giving people major problems lately also.

Just like keeping a land line phone when you use wireless, it is always a good idea to have a few extra email addresses hither and yon.

JD, OD, I get updates from the "Word Association" Thread on DC. That's the only one I ever get. Checked all my controls and they're set to accept E mails from DC and others (FAL Files, and a few others) No PMs either for almost a year now.

One other thing that might be related... The notification messages were always sent as html with clickable links to the subject thread URL. For a few days before the messages stopped arriving, the thread URL was no longer a clickable link, as if the notification message were plain-text. A change in message format can only indicate a change at the source.

#24 ·
Sorry, that is wrong information. The messages I am still receiving consistently on my Yahoo address are html and the links work. If the links were stripped out it was done by your email service/internet service provider.

#25 ·
Wrong information? Maybe; I admit I speculated as to the cause. The change in format is a fact, regardless of the cause. I still get other email messages containing links. So your theory is that Comcast first altered, then stopped, my messages that come from DC and left the rest alone.

#26 ·
It is possible that if Comcast "sees" the DC messages as spam and/or a possible threat that they actually do strip the links from those messages. I am guessing here...........but I do think it is possible, especially since it looks like they then totally blocked them.

Good luck with getting help from Comcast.

We have to use them for TV reception and would switch to about any other company if there were any other company.

I made no changes, spam filters remain disabled. Today I am getting DC notifications again; one for your post #26 above arrived at 14:58 MST today.

The URLs are included but not hyperlinked. I can only conclude that Comcast felt sorry for me and decided to let the messages through again. :smile:

what the hell?

As I mentioned in post #27 above, my DC notification messages have resumed. But now I got this from DC
Your email address has been bouncing. As a result we have disabled any email related notifications including the following:
* auto email subscribe
* receive admin emails
* receive email friend requests
* email on new PM

email: ..removed..@comcast.net

Please check and update your email address.

Once you have corrected your email, you can re-enable the above features through your user control panel:

NOTE: this is just a notice, replies to this message will fail. If you have any questions or concerns please direct them to the us via the Contact Us:

Whoever sent this is either behind the times or just plain wrong. I know it's a valid email address, I've had it forever.

OK, further research shows that Comcast could be the cause of this mess. Apparently it does filter spam sites ahead of my personal spam filter apparatus. I got a new yahoo address and will try that for a while.

ShooterGranny, I bow to your superiority.

utterly baffled

OK, I got a new yahoo address, properly registered it with DC, set "instant notify" on subscribed threads. I am still not getting the notifications. Can't blame this on Comcast!
