Looks like I linked directly to the results.
There was a brief write up that mentioned getting the numbers from the ATF, but said they may be skewed due to non-registered firearms.

    From the article:

"Injury Prevention," a scholarly journal, has released what may be the closest look yet. Their survey, published in 2015, asked a representative sample of 4,000 adults nationwide whether they own firearms. The findings helped the research group estimate gun ownership rates in each state."

Gun ownership has a disconnect with gun rights - California has lots of gun but more regulations to restrict their both their use and acquisition than most places.

    CBS just keeps trying.

Some time back they ran a similar listing - based on ATF registrations. But ATF only has data on SBRs, SBS, and silencers - which hardly equate to rate of gun ownership.

All this information is dependent upon who is taking the information and what adjective they are trying to reach ...

N.Y. is at 10.3% , in another after a quick search it was at 18% your mileage may vary....

Hawaii is the one that tripped a flag for me too. Google found thishttps://www.motherjones.com/politics...-one-in-three/ from a few years ago that indicates similar.

    Still seems odd.

    Another look >>>https://www.thoughtco.com/gun-owners...ations-3325153

About 40 percent of men say they own a firearm, while 22 percent of women do. A closer analysis of this demographic data reveals that about 46 percent of guns are owned by rural households, while just 19 percent of urban households do. The majority of gun owners are also old. About 66 percent of firearms in the U.S. are owned by people aged 50 and older
