Is An AR Pistol an Assault Rifle?

I just bought a AR pistol today and it was officially designated as a handgun. I can legally conceal carry it. If legislation comes down, as in states like mine (Illinois), to impose a ban on "assault rifles", would an AR pistol be considered as an "assault rifle"?

Should I even be bringing this up as an alert to anti's on how to write the legislation?

I know little on the subject so I'll speak at length.

It is impossible to speculate about a law that hasn't been written. You can look at bans in other states and place your bets, for whatever that's worth. Let's just say, the odds aren't in your favor.

Right now, with the current Democratic house, and all the crazy things happening in state governments, I don't think they're in anyone's favor.

Assult rifle means a full auto firearm .

But if they do so called " assult rifle " laws most of the time they copy the 94 or 89 CA or fed ban

So in a nut shell a pistol is banned if it is over 50oz if it has a magizine outsite the mag well and a few other things

So yes it would be classed as such

But really dont worry and enjoy

When they write legislation, now, it's usually not "Assault Rifle" but "Assault Weapon". They do this, so they can include as many pistols, rifles, and shotguns under the legal definition of "Assault Weapon", which usually comes down to physical characteristics.

As I understand the Democrats in Illinois have super majorities in both the house and senate, on top of electing a socialist billionaire for Governor. Two things you can be sure of. #1 Things are going to change for Illinois gun owners. #2 AR pistols are not going to slip through any loopholes. If they miss something, they'll just come back around. The people have spoken.

I guess regardless of what the ban is titled, it would depend on what the wording in the law says. But no, a pistol can not be a rifle, because itís a pistol.

If you ask somebody who knows the factual definition of what an Assault Rifle is No it is not.

If you ask somebody who has never touched a gun, is driven 100% by emotion and has little to no understanding about how the world works of course it is an Assault Rifle with a 30 caliber clip that can fire 30 rounds per second.

While I'm not sure of the legal status of an assault pistol in California, I am pretty certain just on principle that they are not legal. Come to think of it, the restrictions put on an assault rifle take it out of the qualification of an assault rifle to me.

    Congrats on your new pistol.

Not so congrats on your state government. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of states are going to head down that same path. I dread the 2020 elections.
