Very nice. My wife asked why I bought my .458 Lott. I told her in case a rogue elephant escapes the circus or I need to shoot a 1959 Buick.

I like that reply. Sounds as arbitrary as any other answer.

My own .458 Win story: Back in my young buck days I was invited to join a deer drive in Columbia, SC. I had not planned on hunting and had no gun, but the wealthy guy in the gun club loaned me his double-barrel .458 "elephant" gun Yes, a real elephant gun he took on his safari. Super fancy too.

Fortunately I saw no deer because I didn't want to chance scratching it if I pulled the trigger. After the lunch break, a shooting contest broke out, and the owner dared me to shoot it. So I gave in and aimed at the old bucket target. Somehow in all the shooting, I managed to pull both triggers at the same time. Missed with both shots. I think I took down a satellite though.

I won't even pick up a .458 Win anymore. I think that onetime firing is the root cause of my achy right shoulder.

If I had to use logic for every gun purchase, my safe would be almost empty.

    Give or take $100/20 rounds.

I didn't realize that a woodchuck gun was one that actually chucked the woodchuck...
