I owned and operated a holster making company from 1972 until 2015 when I retired. Holsters that covered the trigger guard were quite rare until the late 1980's when striker-fired semi-auto pistols (Glock, et al) came into common use. How any of us older folks survived is difficult to imagine, but I think it had something to do with common sense and safe handling procedures reinforced by repetitious training.

After the first few (hundreds of) negligent, unintentional, accidental, stupid discharges most public shooting ranges and law enforcement agencies mandated covered trigger guards for holsters, insurance companies climbed on board with such requirements, and liability lawyers started chasing the big bucks at the courthouses.

During my 24 years as a cop I don't recall a single holster that I used which covered the trigger guard. I also cannot recall any single incident of a shot being fired without my direct involvement in the process.

I remember when LAPD and California Highway Patrol were issuing and requiring the use of clamshell holsters that required the user to insert his trigger finger through the trigger guard in order to release the handgun from the holster. State of the art at the time.

I was trained on double-action revolvers with the usual positioning of the trigger finger on the trigger. We also learned how to "stage" the double-action trigger pull while aiming at the intended target, effectively applying enough force to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer and then apply the last bit of pressure to fire the weapon.

Nothing about the way I was trained or how we regularly used our side arms would pass muster on today's public or private shooting ranges. Oddly enough, no one thought anything about these things until people started shooting their own butts off while holstering or drawing the new super-duper extra-special load-it-on-Sunday-and-shoot-all-week striker-fired pistols.

I don't like what I see in that little revolver shown in the OP. I would not have one any more than I would own a Glock or any of the other trash that passes as "modern" handgun technology today.

    Rant over.
