Thumbs up Low cost glow in the dark gun sights the easy way.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

If your firearms have white dots or plain iron sights.
there are many ways to improve over what you already have.
That is, without having to remove or purchase new sights.
While at the same time you add some glow to those otherwise plain gun sight.

    We suggest this low-cost alternative.
Glow-On is concentrated glow paint specially designed for this type of task.
With twice the amount of glow particles and half the binder than other competitive products.
Glow-On is opaque, it contains its own primer, it covers dark surfaces efficiently.

    Here is a small tutorial.
I think this short video is the best one since the camera lens is very close to the subject.

Your gun without the magic paint!

    The transformation begins.

    First, we clean the surface.
Alcohol and a clean paper towel.

Stir the paint, load a nice bead of paint and transfer it by touching slightly the surface.
Repeat for as long as you need to build a nice bulging drop of paint.
it will shrink a bit while it dries.

Let it dry for one day and seal it with transparent nail polish of good quality.
Never use the UV filter one, it will filter light going inside the glow particles and it will dim the glow.

A few things I wish someone would have told me when I bought my first firearm, but I have learned from this community.

-Firearms are tools, they are not evil.
The same way a sword or a hammer is not evil.
Firearms are tools and tools can be dangerous when misused.
If you are new to firearms, especially handguns, please read further.
If you are a seasoned member of this forum...Just watch the pictures...Lol!
    .
To safely handle a handgun, a visit to your gun range to inquire about instruction and local and federal regulations is not optional

-Everything that can go wrong will go wrong.
I've seen enough purple thumbs in my life, to know that some people can't use hammers or drawers efficiently...that is not an option regarding a firearm.
Accidental discharges will happen, make sure you are always prepared to deal with one. Safe corners bags of sand whathaveyou.

    -Knowledge is paramount
Become part of a good self-defense forum, like this one, always heed the advice of experts and professionals.

    -Handguns and deadly force.
Except when we are not at our beloved gun range...
The same way that we would not pull fire extinguisher from our car unless we are going to use one, we never touch my gun unless we have enough reason to introduce deadly force.
My lawyer says to think of it this way, "If you touch your gun, someone will die" "

    -Safety checks are obligatory.
Learn to perform a safety check and perform one every time you hand your weapon to someone. Never accept a firearm from anyone unless such procedure is performed.
A good gun shop clerk will never skip this step.

No one wants to be the poor ass who didn't know there was a bullet in that chamber.

    Here is a sobering thought:
The OK Coral shooting lasted 30 seconds and 30 rounds were fired, three people laid dead, one escaped unharmed, the rest were badly wounded. But it didn't end there, vengeance killings and lawsuits plagued the survivors. Lethal force is not a joke.

Long guns are a bit more forgiving, they are easier to handle, to point and hit a target, plus no one carries one in the pocket...

    -Gun Safety Rules:
    There are many versions.
The United States Marine Corps uses the following four weapons safety rules:

1-Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
2-Never point the weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3-Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you're ready to fire
4-Keep the weapon on safe until you intend to fire

Now enjoy your weekend thanks for the support and God bless you.

How does a single spot of paint can actually make a difference?
that is what we were wondering so we removed one spot and took a picture.

Then we removed both for effect this time...
One single picture speaks louder than a thousand words.

    Purchase - Glow-On

I'll try to illustrate the procedure using Glow-On Blue today.

The small wooden applicator can be trimmed with a small knife for a more precise application.
Please notice the thinner the applicator the less paint it will hold.
I don't recommend a brush for this job.

We basically load paint, touch and transfer it to the surface.
Repeat until you build a nice bead of paint. This layers will not give much glow.

We are going to let it dry for one day and then seal it with a touch of transparent nail polish.
Never use UV filtering transparent coat, it will filter light and glow.

What's even lower cost is using a bright nail polish. Recently I put some iridescent orange on the front sight of my Mark IV, which I got at Walmart for $2.50. Of course it's most effective in daylight. Works well for me.
