The LeBaron Family Massacre- Where were the men?

Pretty simple question- Given the history of your specific family and the cartels (and cartel violence in general) how the [] do you send your wives and children in an unescorted convoy across no-mans land in Northern Mexico?

My question is why were they living in a lawless country run by the drug cartels? Mexico is the murder capitol of the world. The cartels answer to no one.

With that cartel stuff, there was probably more going on than we will ever know about.

Recently, a dentist from the US took his family on vacation to Costa Rica, which of course is not far south of Mexico. It is supposed to be a vacation paradise and a prime retirement destination for Americans. The dentist and his guide were shot to death while fly fishing. The suspicion is that the fly fishing guide had some drug connections and it was a cartel hit. The dentist was just collateral damage. But we will never know about that one either.

Apparently the cartels don't follow the strict gun laws.

We probably never will know the whole story on this. I seriously doubt it was a case of mistake identity, though. Somehow, those folks got into conflict with a cartel and that massacre is the result.

As to why there were no adult men in that group, I suspect these weird cults have some kind of rules on who goes where and when.

Why? Many good and faithful Christians see it as an obligation to the Lord to spread His word in lawless and crime ridden areas. How many of us that are considered ourselves a believer would gladly sacrifice their lives in Jesus name. Whether there was a rift between them and the local cartel is only an assumption.

We all follow our faith the way we see fit.
But I do see a problem with the way some people choose to spread the word of their religion.
Islamic terrorist think it is their duty to spread the word using fear and violence.
I do not believe that The Lord wishes me to sacrifice my wife and children in his name.
And that is all I am going to say on the subject of religion

One of the reports I saw early on was that these people were part of a breakaway sect of the Mormon church that had settled in Mexico decades ago for sanctuary in their practice of polygamy. I'm not sure of the accuracy of that report but it makes sense.

If these folks were in that group, then there might be only one man for the 3 women.

Most Americans have no idea why Mexico is so dangerous. I've often told people who are hoping it will be peaceful and enjoyable to visit that, "You will never know it is an extremely violent place, until it is."

Should anyone be traveling there, remember this. Mexico is a lower class third world country. I don't care what Americans tell you, I've spent quite a bit of time there along the border and it simply is a completely different world from ours. Americans ask, "Why are the laws not enforced?" and the simple answer is that law is not enforced in Mexico...it is purchased. You can do anything you want...if you have enough money to pay someone to look the other way - and you're not a gringo, or as they say, "A norte americano."

When people ask, "Why did that happen in Mexico?" I immediately know the truthful answer: "Why not?" Why do so many Mexican people flee that place? Because here $2.50 an hour is a small fortune where, by and large, they can live in safety for themselves and their children.

A human tragedy on a grand scale that is largely unnoticed.

Had the small caravan been escorted by male members of the break-away sect, it is likely that they would have been killed also. I see it as ludicrous that on the day of the first funeral following the attack, television reports depicted a small cohort of police and Mexican soldiers standing around to provide security. Had the cartel elected to disrupt the funerals the security detail would have been dealt with as a mere inconvenience were it not for a Mexican Marine reaction force staged at a helipad a few miles away and out of view of the news organization cameras.

Less than a week before the ambush of the LeBaron motorcade 30 well trained, heavily armed, Mexican National Guardsmen attempted to arrest Ovidio Lopez, the son of "El Chapo" Guzman. They were outgunned and out maneuvered by the Sinaloa cartel who effected the meditate release of Lopez. Cartel "soldiers" engaged the government troops with armoured vehicles, automatic weapons, heavy machine guns and RPGs. A principal officer in the attempted arrest, who was part of an elite law enforcement group that provides security to high ranking government officials, was killed by unkown gunmen a few days later when they fired approximately 150 rounds into his vehicle at a strip mall in central Culiacan.

The US government has stated that the Guzman cartel brought in over $14B in revenue, largely through drug trafficking, during El Chapo's reign. In recent years they have branched out and now make more money through extortion and protection rackets. The LeBaron massacre was part of the marketing plan, in order to send a message to business owners, shopkeepers, professionals, politicians, farmers and rival gangs that there is no safe refuge in Mexico and no person or group that is exempt from paying the cartel for "protection" and "insurance". I suspect cartel revenue will be up for November.

Very interesting. I wouldn't be surprised that this was a targeted attack on the family. What better way to get someones attention than killing their wives and children. Sends a lasting message.
