Old Man, where our home sits is part of the winter range for the mule deer here, but we see deer year round at our elevation, 5300 feet. I only have an over-the-counter elk tag this year, but it's for archery, muzzleloader, and rifle season. Bow hunting here starts mid-August.

At any rate, today we saw the doe in the photo, plus four 3X3 bucks. Unfortunately, they did not move through the opening in the trees at the same time. This is about a mile from our house. They probably had been feeding on the alfalfa fields across the street from our home.

Sorry for the poor quality of the cell phone photo. They tend not to do well in a backlit situation.

That always fires me up to dust off the old Hoyt and sling a few arrows.

When I post photos, I hit "go advanced" then upload the image, preview the post to make sure everything looks good, then hit post.

My deer are in the back yard. Sadly, you can't shoot them inside the city limits. I just shoot them with a camera now.

Has anyone approached the city with an urban archery season request? Urban hunting here in NoVA is open basically Sep-Apr.

It wouldn't be practical due to the proximity of the houses and besides, they are practically tame. Not much sport there. I'm within walking distance of the local hospital and police station. To say I live in the middle of town would be an understatement. I still enjoy sitting on the back porch, sipping a beer, and watching the deer though.

It's not legal where we are, but there are places in Utah where it is. Every winter we have a number of deer killed by cars on Main Street.

Same here. It's sad for the deer, but if you want to total a car...hit a deer with it. And they will walk right out in front of you like a kid with ear buds listening to his favorite tunes. The bad thing about deer. You think you dodged the first one.....three or four more are following behind.

    Better than hitting an elk...
