    Thermal Ratting

It has been my experience that the world of micro trophy hunting has been underexploited. It seems to be something of a hit in Europe, but slow to catch on here. Even so, with a combination of the right location, right gear, right ammo, and healthy target population, it can be reality.

Interesting to watch. I can see how some people would be attracted to that type of hunting. It combine patience, shooting skill, and fine tuned gear. It is not my thing, but maybe if I were younger and looking to hunt small critters at night I might have done it.

Nearest dump always had plenty of those to shoot, all day, sometimes a brick of 22's.

Rats at 120 yards is some precision shooting.

Used to do that as a teenager, one time somebody called the Sherriff about shooting at the dump. Deputy came out to check on us, didnít find anything wrong but came back later with a couple boxes of ammo and joined the fun.

In Europe most guns are prohibited, but air guns are allowed in some jurisdictions. They are also quiet, and have more limited range, making them appropriate where population densities are higher.

That's sounds like a lot of fun with a great purpose as well!

One of my viewers informed me of an interesting fact concerning woodrats and woodrat hunting. In the last 5 years in Texas, woodrats have killed as many hunters as hippos have killed.

Sage-rat hunting is very popular in Oregon with .22 or .17 HMR rifles.

I guess full body mounts would be cheaper too, well, what's left of them.

Best to check and make certain that it was not taken out of season.

I wish I had that set up as a kid. When I was sent out to the barn with a flashlight and a .38 with rat shot.

Think the wife would draw the line of having that rat trophy hanging over the mantle.
