Nice article, never had the patience to think about being a sniper. Love reading about them. Especially the ones during Vietnam.

I have a friend who was a sniper in Vietnam. His story is incredible, and somewhat heartbreaking as well. His unit was ambushed and nearly wiped out, behind enemy lines. He existed there, making his way back to our lines over the course of a week. There, he was promptly arrested and thrown into prison for desertion. It took a while for the truth to be found, and then he was released. That's all. No apology, nothing. Suffice it to say he does not have much good to say about his experience, and will not go near a VA or any government facility.

Although it is sort of generic and, even with the updates, is somewhat dated, this is a pretty good book on snipers and sniping.

One thing not mentioned is that one form of camouflage is just the ability to be still!
My father and grandfather hunted in Red Plaid!
There were many times when you could have reached out and touched a deer as they passed waiting for the one you want to shoot. Somewhere out there on the net I have seen video of a guy successfully hunting coyotes in a Santa Suit! His only camo, being still when they were looking! DR
