76 Shots, 9 Hits, Reckless Police Shooting, Police Probie Fired, Trainer Disciplined

Wow, just wow. Why it is that the trainee was dictating the actions of the officers, giving commands to his trainer, and how or why the trainer let things unfold in this manner are beyond me.

They get a call about a guy on drugs, hallucinating, armed with a knife and gun and attempt to stop him. He flees, pointing his gun at them in the process. They take off after him with very little regard for the safety of the public.

The probationary officer fired 64 times, many through his windshield. Note his gun handling, muzzle discipline, etc. The training officer follows with firing through the windshield as well, with a carbine, the report obviously causing considerable pain to both officers.

Never mind that shooting through the windshield can cause significant deflection of bullets that will end up in places unintended.

Here is the full video on YouTube.

Here is one of many news articles that talks about the probie getting fired, the trainer disciplined, and the apparent disgust felt by the Anaheim Chief of Police regarding their behavior.

No charges filed on either officer (probably because no bystanders were injured?).

Lots of low-probability, high-risk rounds expended.

Enough misses to bring down the national hits average for cops? Probably not.

I can tie this back to a couple of other recent threads:

    1. Not all cops are gun guys, in fact, the majority of them fairly suck when it comes to ability with a firearm.
    2. Do you want an SRO who shoots like this unloading in an incident inside a school?

You don't need to be a "gun guy" to know you don't shoot in a high density neighborhood through a moving vehicle's windshield. That's just plain stupidity (and dangerous as all get out).

And the State of California is concerned about citizens with guns!!! I am aghast at the utterly irresponsible shooting I just saw.

I would be willing to bet 2/3+ of the hits came from the short range shooting AFTER the chase had ended. Surely the probie didn't miss with those last 3 shots at such close range and neither should have missed the a stationary target, right?

You might find the video "disturbing." I certainly do. I expect better from our paid public servants.

I'm not surprised at all by anything I saw in the video.

If this is standard Anaheim protocol, the PD would be better off mounting Mk44 Bushmasters on its vehicles.
