    Virginia Beach workplace shooting

Not a lot of details yet but with it being a city building I am confident it was a so-called gun free zone.

At least 11 deaths and 6 injuries at Virginia Beach municipal complex, police say; shooter also dead

At least 11 people are dead, and six people were injured Friday when a shooter, who was shot and killed by police, opened fire inside a Virginia Beach city building, Police Chief Jim A. Cervera said on Friday.

The shooter was a current longtime public utility worker for the city, Cervera said. Authorities have not released his name or a possible motive for the shooting.

"This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach," Mayor Bobby Dwyer said. "The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbors and colleagues."

Five people were taken Virginia Beach General, and one person was being flown to the Level I Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the Virginian-Pilot reported. A Virginia Beach police officer was among those shot, but was saved by his bullet-proof vest, Cervera said.

    Shooting In Virginia Beach

Few details so far, other than workplace shooting & 11 dead. I get sick just thinking about these things.

12 Dead, 6 Wounded, Including Officer In Active Shooting

    This was ugly.

A gunman opened fire in a municipal building in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon, leaving 12 dead and six wounded.

Virginia Beach, VA – At least 12 people are dead and six more are wounded, including a police officer, after a disgruntled city employee opened fire inside the public works building at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on Friday afternoon.

“This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach. The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbors, colleagues,” Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer told reporters at the start of the press conference.

I am sooooo glad I am retired and can pretty much take "workplace" violence off my concerns.

Gives me an eerie feeling reading these articles. I just got back today from a VA Beach vacation with my family. We were not staying near the event, but it can happen anywhere. We got back home about 3 hours before this stuff started.

According to the Vice Mayor on C.N.N. no restriction on carry in that building.

Wonder how long that will last.

I read the shooter identified on social media as DeWayne Craddock...

DeWayne Craddock being 40 years old. It lists him as a Black registered Democrat.......

I guess that's why I'm not hearing it broadcast in the media.....

    There goes that retort...

I wonder if on-duty carry is prohibited for city employees?

I tried to find info on places in Virginia where open or concealed carry is not permitted. I found very little that would explain the state laws concerning this. I would still guess this building where the shooting occurred was a gun free zone. Someone here will let us know for sure.
