    No, that happened in Obama's time. Trump has simply not reversed course. The issue is that we are staying allied with someone who truly hates us, and clearly is only using the US resources for his own benefit. If push comes to shove, I can see Turkey being our enemy, and not an ally.

    Well, I have always suspected that the NATO Treaty is a lap dance pay to play scheme.

    You just cannot capture these terrorists and fight this like a conventional war in the past. Where when you won, it was over and everyone went home.
    The only way to end this is no prisoners. Kill them on the battlefield. Then they cannot come back in another form. What comes after ISIS, some other group takes over unless there are no more willing participants. Get rid of the truly radicalized, the rest will quit fighting, with no one left to poison their minds, the jihad will evaporate.

    With their mentality though, you will have to kill them all, men, women, and yes children, they are just going to grow up to avenge their parents against the great Satan. They set the rules, lets play by their rules for a while and see how long it takes for them to take their ball and go home.

    “NORTHERN SYRIA — Kurdish fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, are still waiting anxiously for the U.S. to return after it left on Monday, saying it was “going out for a pack of smokes.”

    This will end badly.

    And long term consequences could be ugly.

    IMO there's a simple strategy to extricate from the middle east. We carpet bomb the area with leaflets written in all local local languages that say:

    "Your leaders attacked us, and harbored and empowered those they knew would attack us. So we came to your lands, killed more of you than you killed of us, and turned your cities to rubble. But we are not without compassion, and we tried to help your leaders rebuild after the necessary military response. But your own leaders and people decided to destroy the good things that your people and ours built together, from hospitals to power plants, to schools for your children that would improve your communities, preventing your country from returning to the peaceful and prosperous land it once was and could be again.

    "We are done here. It is not our responsibility to fix what your people continue to destroy, so we are leaving. Fix your own problems, and leave us alone. Be warned, if your country ever attacks us again, or harbors and empowers someone else to attack us, we will respond again with tremendous military might, and then we will immediately leave so the few who remain can bury the scores of the dead."

    However, I doubt any western leaders have the spine to actually do this.

    It would be nice, but it's impossible to have a rational conversation with someone that actually wants to live in the 7th Century.

    And they can call in aircraft to bomb--soI gotta say, that I am confused. Why not leave the SF there, to call in air strikes?
    {I think that they will be sent right back in, if Turkey invades.}
    If Turkey hits one of our troops we are in it deep. That would be what, war #5 going on for us?

    US Officials have now announced that the attacks on the Kurds have taken them from their battles with the last holdout positions of ISIS. SO ISIS in now on the move. That is bad. Turkey is creating a new refugee crisis in its attempt to gain territory and resettle refugees in Turkey there. Trump had indicated that he on reason he felt no allegiance to the Kurds os because they did not help us in WWII. They did not. However they did. not fight against us which the turks id WWI and WWII. So why agree with the Turks to stand asides and let them invade. It escapes me. SNAFU.

    The only reason Turkey is a NATO member and our theoretical ally was the Soviet Union and Turkey's specific geography. If Turkey did not dominate the only access to the Black Sea and be conveniently located for electronic eavesdropping on the Soviets they would have been no more important to us than Chad. They know this and have no problem treating our relationship as it is, a business relationship. As long as we have something to offer them we are pals. As soon as we don't, they could buddy up with Russia or China.
    Their foreign policy is Turkey first, just as ours is America first. As it should be.
