Happy to have another Hoosier on-board. Though I grew up and raised my family in the Chicago area, I moved to the countryside southwest of Indy when I retired a few years ago.

Welcome from the Pacific Northwest, Backpacker57!

Are there a lot of good places to go backpacking in Indiana?

Do you shoot at Marion County fish and game?

I have backpacked in the Hoosier National forest and the Charles Deam Wilderness in particular. In the southern part of the state is The Knobstone Trail. About 10 years ago I had an accident with a heavy machine. I broke both bones just above my left ankle and have a fused ankle as well. My backpacking days are over.

I have not visited the Marion County site.

I have built a range on my property. The adjacent photo from my profile was taken at the range. The maximum shooting distance is 45 yards unless I cross a creek and then it becomes 75 yards. Due to the configuration of the creek and the deep, wide, bed through which it runs, I can not safely shoot at distances between 45 yards and 75 yards. I can walk down to the range anytime the urge hits me. I tend to shoot about once a month. I do shoot in all kinds of weather. I love to go to the range in very cold conditions, rain, high wind, blowing snow, deep dusk, when the mosquito are out etc. I am a Marine veteran and I know real-life events involving firearms are not postponed or delayed due to weather like Major League Baseball games.

Upon resettling in Indiana about five years ago my first act, after getting an Indiana driver's license, was getting a lifetime concealed carry permit. We really love central Indiana.

Sorry to hear that, Backpacker57. Glad your shooting days are not over, though! Hope you enjoy the site!
