In the first couple of days after shooting, we all read media reports about how heavily armored he was, and gun control advocates are using this to claim that a CCW holder would not have made a difference. This is baloney.
Holmes was not wearing a ballistic vest. He was wearing a tactical vest (of course, the media doesn't know the difference).
Here's the shooter's order at TacticalGear.com.
Here's the store's page for the vest: Blackhawk Urban Assault Vest
I'm still waiting for a gun control advocate to volunteer to demonstrate how bulletproof this vest is. And to make things easier for him/her, I am only going to use .22lr.
Bottom line is a CCW holder, if they had a shot at him, could have stopped this massacre with center mass hits. No need for a more difficult headshot.
So the next time you hear or read someone spread this "heavy armor" garbage, set them straight.

Have the police given a complete inventory of what he had and was wearing?

There is now a gag on it so no more updates!
I suppose those, along with magazine pouches, will be on the ban list now.
So: no ballistic vest, no tear gas.
We still have an AR-15, a darkened theater, smoke, and panicked people. Our guns are still underpowered for that situation. But this is less impossible. Of course, next time someone is going to have the vest and the tear gas.
The media, in general, is firearm ignorant... In this CNN video report ( Official: Trap in Colorado suspect's home had 30 homemade grenades, gasoline - CNN.com ) they tell us that he carried two (2) "forty millimeter" handguns.
As with so may topics the media covers, they often have no idea what they're talking about.

I changed it, It now reads:
a tactical vest (not body armor as originally reported)
Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of hardware.
How can you praise freedom, and condemn that which gains and preserves it?
Of course y'all also realize that, to the media, everything above a 22 varmit rifle is a dreaded "AK-47."

Unless we have a complete inventory of everything he was wearing it appears that you are just assuming that because he was wearing a load bearing vest he could not have been wearing a bullet resistant vest as well. That is a dangerous assumption to make.

Some sources are reporting that he had a smoke bomb.
Look, guys, don't be so critical of reporters. In a chaotic shooting, it's really hard to tell what someone has. Some of this stuff is also quite technical. A clip vs. a magazine? Most people don't know the difference. Heck, some gun people don't either. It didn't surprise me to see that Holmes had "an automatic assault rifle with a clip with 100 bullets."

It showed up immediately on my screen, yours may have cached it. Open the article and then press F5 and it will renew it. Other than that I don't know if there is a waiting period.
