Seems to me it ended very well. Nobody that matters got hurt.
I didn't attend his funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.

A man, without force, is without the essential dignity of humanity. Human nature is so constituted, that it cannot honor a helpless man, although it can pity him; and even this it cannot do long, if the signs of power do not arise.

Can the would-be robber still be "a good boy" at 51 and still trying to turn his life around?

Odd! Usually a wide age gap is the other way around.

Oh well, Bad guy had 51 years to perfect his craft and didn't do very well.

I have to say that this robber appears to have been just plain stupid.

I assume he was aware that he was holding a pellet gun. One would think that the proper response to having a real gun pointed at you in such a situation would be to immediately drop the pellet gun and surrender.

In any case, the soldier fixed the robbers "stupid" permanently.

Maybe....he thought that Dario also had a pellet gun but, just a pellet gun with a bigger hole in the front.
