I just saw this on the evening news: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...-home-n1065451. Neighbor said he call the non-911 number to ask the cops to check on his neighbor. He was concerned because her lights were on and her door was open. This is the end result of that concern.
Breaks my heart. Every time.

When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

A 9MM MAY expand to .45 but a 45ACP will never shrink to 9MM.
They really need to disarm the police.
I agree. Listen to the audio. The officer yells drop the weapon and then immediately fires his weapon. The fastest response imaginable would not have been fast enough to be perceived aatelys complying. I do not mean to blame the officer. I would not wan to ever be in his situation. I know that when you face a gun your reaction is to defend fast. Fortunately for me, it was war and the rules were totally different.
My guess is he loses his job, and I think that is a shame. He clearly reacted to a perceived threat, He did not have the fire discipline to needed, but you do not get that in a police academy. Assuming no hidden agendas on the part of the LEO I would keep him on the force and eventually task him with coaching other officers about threat reaction.

More and more, there are days when I thank the good Lord I'm retired.
Absolute catastrophe.

Wow.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them.....well, I have others.
Inadequate shoot/don't-shoot training IMHO. These days with the availability of simulators, I don't think there's any excuse but time and time again, situations arise where officers do shoot too soon, often costing an innocent life.

Adrenalin kicks in and finger on the trigger causes a tightening of the muscles and the trigger goes back? I don’t know. Don’t mean to armchair quarterback because I wasn’t there but I could see it as ONE possibility. In other words, he just didn’t mean to pull the trigger that fast after the command. Heart goes out to the family of the deceased and the officer.
Horrible....

- cop was a rookie, came on 4/2018
- made a poor rookie move
- should be fired
- the woman he killed was literally a nerd
- sad
- rip
.
I don't know...I am pro LEO, BUT...how does just losing his job suffice here?

Gun carry permits and the 2nd amendment only confirm what is a God given right to protect ones life and the lives of loved ones from evil.
Speed is only a matter of money. How fast do you want to go?
- we are all pro LEO here
- but like every trade there is the good, bad, and the ugly
- this is ugly
- and hopefully everyone can learn from it and something positive can come from this tradgedy
- obviously the issues are complex....
- charges won't stick because legally the cop commited no crime
- you can't prove premeditation or intent or neglegence or reclessness under current TX law
- CA use of force laws jut got changed from 'reasonable' to 'necessary'...
- in CA this case would likley be prosecuted as NOT 'necessary'
- in TX the law says 'reasonable' and in this case the officer can easily argue that it was reasonable to fear for his life under the circumstances (door open, no response, silouette figure with gun in hand)..
