This is a discussion on FBI Agent drops gun in bar, shooting patron within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; I noticed his face was blurred out. Was that James Comey on his bookselling tour?...

It appears he is right-handed since he re-holstered using his right hand. He fired the weapon when he picked up the dropped weapon with his left hand, probably never practiced handling the weapon with his off hand?

Last time I saw anything on it (a few years ago) the FBI Academy trained potential agents on dominant and non-dominant gun handling. Not that he actually practiced it after the academy (or other rudimentary skills for that matter) but he was trained in it.

Oh, is that how it works? If I was to accidentally shoot someone my boss can just come down to the police station to get me out?

Good question. Seeing as the agent was off duty and not acting in his official capacity, I would think there would be no case against the agency. So, he would have to go after the agent personally which may not be too lucrative if he is out of a job. But, I have very little faith that he will be held accountable he is a government employee and (I assume) in a union.

Unless, like many LE agencies they require all agents to be armed at all times, or baring that, he was on quick recall duty.

FBI or average Joe, Finger pulling trigger = bang.
and what's with the SOB carry? Looks like he either has a crappy holster or no holster at all.
Seems like a waste of funds to have spent money putting this guy through training. Hopefully he has something to fall back on, like maybe manning the french fry technician station at In & Out Burger.

I just saw this on the CBS Evening News. I'd say the wounded guy will be happily retired soon, hopefully with nothing more than a slight limp.

This unfortunate incident is going to give the tactical back flippers out there a bad reputation.

The headline makes it out like the gun went off on its own when it fell, but in reality it was the FBI agent causing a negligent discharge from improperly handling it.
