It is astonishing how quickly that city has changed. We spent a week there back in 2009 and encountered no problems, but I would not travel there today.

    Amen bro.
I will say though that I will not let it go without a fight. It's worth saving. One should not stay silent. Contacting our representatives and voting is a must.

I really like the list that @xXxHeavy attached in post #6. I did my own scoring of those factors and I'd put us at about 60% right now, meaning more socialist than not.

jmf552, I completely agree with you and xXxHeavy. But I can't say I "like" what's happening.

“The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement.
They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty.
They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship.
They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent.
They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one a subordinate clerk in a bureau.”

I know a rancher that visited a state run farm in Russia some years ago. They watched a guy driving a tractor pulling a grain drill in a field planting wheat. As the tractor passed them, he noticed that the grain hopper on the drill was empty, so he asked the interpreter what the story was.

The interpreter told him that the guy that loads the grain was out sick and the tractor drivers job was to drive the tractor so that’s what he did. The guy drove an empty tractor all morning. The workers do not think for themselves and only do THEIR job. True story about a collective farm.

That's because all of the so called progressives are so much smarted than the ones who tried this in other countries. Just look at Ocrazio-Cotex and how smart she is.

    From Investors Business Daily
What exactly is democratic socialism, and what distinguishes it from socialism plain and simple? Ocasio-Cortez doesn't know. When asked about it by Meghan McCain on "The View," she stated that there is a "huge difference" between the two notions but then concluded, "I believe that in a moral and wealthy America, in a moral and modern America, no person should be too poor to live in this country." Which doesn't explain the difference at all.
By now our forefathers would be shooting.

Life is too important to take seriously.

If anyone wants some very entertaining, but educational, views of socialism vs. capitalism, I can heartily recommend two things:
    • The 2015 video documentary "Boom, Bust, Boom," which you can find on Netflix. It stars Terry Jones from Monty Python and it is very cleverly done.
    • The 1998 book, "Eat the Rich: A Treatise on Economics," by P. J. O'Rourke, former writer and editor for the National Lampoon. His dry humor is top notch.

Both are very well researched and well reasoned and contain many interviews with serious economists, but both are presented in way that will have you laughing, or at least grinning, all the way through.
