    I know what you mean!

I finished Go Down Together (well, several days ago) quite a good read, thanks again for the tip.

Guinn's Tombstone book arrived along with John Neal Phillips book; Running with Bonnie and Clyde: The Ten Fast Years of Ralph Fults. Got it from a book seller through Amazon, in like new condition and it's even autographed! (not to me of course, but some gal named Cecelia, back in 2000 )

I thought I'd take a break from ol' Clyde & Bonnie for a spell, and started a book I've had for over a year; The G-Man and the Diamond King: A True FBI Crime Story of the 1930s; by Special Agent William E. Plunkett. It's about the first agent to be killed in the line of duty under the new "FBI" heading and not the old Bureau of Investigation.

Still waiting for; Bonnie and Clyde: A Twenty-First-Century Update: by James R. Knight,

Days of Rage: America's Radical Underground, the FBI, and the Forgotten Age of Revolutionary Violence: by Bryan Burrough.

and The Year of Fear: Machine Gun Kelly and the Manhunt That Changed the Nation: Joe Urschel. (thanks again for that recommendation too)

The Days of Rage sounds very interesting. So does The G-Man and the Diamond King. Like you, I'm a bit B&C'd out, but still very interested in the time period so those books you mentioned are in the queue.

The Year of Fear does go into some detail about how J. Edgar Hoover used the Urschel kidnapping to help solidify his position in the Bureau, along with the transition of The Bureau to the F.B.I. The Urschel kidnapping/Kelly manhunt had far reaching effects in regards to Hoover's ambition, and the F.B.I.'s power and authority we know today.

One thing I find interesting about the gangster era is how different the mob was in the mid-west, compared to the mob on the east coast.

I hadn't really thought about that, but it's got me contemplating now.

I was wondering the same thing, and will be checking for it. I kind of hope it isn't available so soon, or I'm gonna be dealing with a touch of sleep deprivation tomorrow.

Thanks for the link, Dan! That book seems to be right up the alley of my growing interest in that region of the country, during that era.
