    Arkansas vacation tips

I'll be visiting the Bentonville/Lake Leatherwood area in about a month. Stopping in the St. Louis area overnight on the way south.

Any local favorites, tips, or advice on mother nature, dining, or CC?

You’re a bit ahead of us, we’re looking at end of April/first of May to head up there. Can’t give you any tips on AR but when you stop in STL have dinner at Frank Pappas.

For sure put Crystal Bridges on your list. World class art museum. Daisy B Gun museum in Rogers might be interesting to you. Rogers and Bentonville butt right up against each other. You won't know when you've left one and entered the other.

This area is LOADED with good restaurants and hotels. We attract a lot of visitors because of all the vendors coming into to work with WalMart and Sam's Club HQ's. A fun/different place to eat is Monte Ne Chicken house. It's family style fried chicken meal, no menus. Only choices are drink and desert. Food and atmosphere brings them in. It's almost always on the requested "repeat" list when we have folks visit more than once. We also have most of the chain restaurants that any large city would have. The Rail in Rogers is good. Gusano's (small area chain) are good pizza joints. Mr B's in Rogers is a great steak house located in an old but nice house. It's about the only place I'll order a steak, as I find grilling myself is better than most steaks I get in restaurants.

Lake Leatherwood is near Eureka Springs. You can (and should) easily spend a day walking the shops in Eureka Springs and getting a drink at the bar at the top of the Crescent Moon hotel. Bubba's BBQ in Eureka Springs is awesome.

My son and I stopped in a fine dining place in Arkansas to help us forget about the disappointing fishing trip that we had. The freckled face waitress gave us some time to get into the food and then she came over and asked us if that food was "everything we had dreamed of and everything our little hearts desired." That made our day and- Yes we gave her a decent tip.

If you go to ShortStop in Garfield, this photo is of a small cone. They've got great food. Or at least they did have. I see they have new management. We drove there from Springfield just ot have lunch there. Happened to meet our niece there.

If you're into motorcycles, check out Pig Trail Harley. Good fishing on the lake.

Blanchard Springs should be on the list to visit. The Ozarks aren’t the tallest mountains, but the scenery isn’t 2nd rate by any means. I’ve grown a bit old now, but my 2 week vacation used to be pack provisions on my Harley, head up, (or down) Hwy 5 and trout fish. Ever wake up at the crack of dawn, catch a couple of trout, cook them over open fire and some eggs just to get the day started?

Go out of your way and travel down Hwy 5 starting in Mo. Take your time and enjoy the scenery, you won’t be disappointed. After that, see the rest of the Ozarks On your way to Bentonville.

On CC, Arkansas honors all 50 states. We are now a constitutional carry state. Shouldn’t every state? Any state that doesn’t honor the bills of rights is a state I choose to avoid.

We Arkies are very friendly over all, but we are not all toothless, dumb hillbillies, so don’t expect us to be barefooted and slow.

Watch your six in STL and DO NOT venture north of the downtown area.

    STL area dining:
    BBQ - Pappy’s
Irish Pub - McGurk’s (great patio)
Italian - Charlie Gitto’s on The Hill
High end - Tony’s or Capitol Grille in Clayton
