I didn't want to revive this just because, but I found a very interesting video about Hamer's guns. Or more precisely, the accuracy of Frank Hamer Jr's account of guns used by his father in the B&C event. I checked the author's statements out. Lo and behold the gun Hamer Jr claims his father used is NOT a Remington Model 8 - it is a Model 81! (The rifle in the video) There is a difference. So just the facts please. Here is a video followed by a link to a page with some interesting opinions and more facts.

    The Great Model 8 & 81 Ľ Frank Hamer?s Rifle

The second source more than likely states a fact: Frank's son did not try to deliberately mislead anyone, the story behind the gun likely got tangled up in history and failing memories.

I think this event was so much on the ragged edge between the mostly unwritten or inaccurate history of the 19 century, and earlier, and the modern era of somewhat more accurate history accounts that we may not ever really know much for certain.
