Popular videos, that's twice in this thread alone.

Hopefully more will see them posted together.

I though it odd they always carried their Colt SA's when going concealed in the movie.

    Another good (IMO) quick video.

Don't know if anybody answered...but to me, IMHO he did a way above average job considering most Hollyweird junk that purports to be "based on a true story" would be better labeled "extremely loosely based on a true story as seen through an alcohol/drug binge hangover". Sure they embellished here and there, and they had to select which version of some events to portray, but overall, I thought it was well worth watching.

I wonder if anyone found anything about the Candelaria event they talked about? I went to the definitive history of the Texas Rangers, "The Time of The Rangers" by Mike Cox but I can't find anything. The closest I can find was the Porvenir massacre, but that was not really anywhere close to what they talked about in the movie.

I think there was a reference to it in the second video I linked above. Justice to Pancho part II At around 3:00.

Historically, I though Hamer was very fond of the 1911, maybe Super .38? I haven't read his book. OD* Insight?

While he carried the Colt Super 38, the wheel gun was always there. I think he referred to it as "Old Lucky".

It had been a gift early in his career.

You are correct, everybody believes because he liked "Old Lucky", that's all he liked, which is far from the truth. There's pictures of Hamer carrying a 1911 as early as 1915, the man wasn't a Luddite or he would have chased Bonnie and Clyde on horseback with a Winchester and not a Colt Monitor .

Yes, Hamer's son, Frank Jr., confirmed his dad carried a Colt Super.38 on the hunt for B&C.
(along with Old Lucky and a .44 Triple Lock S&W)
