    SUBJECT: Who Am I?

    Subject: WHO AM I

    Description: /service/home/~/?id=93019&part=2.2&auth=co

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.

I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class and an ally of big business.

I was baptized a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel.

I am retired, which makes me useless.

I think and I reason, therefore, I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without student loan debts and little or no debt, which makes me some kind of an odd underachiever

I believe in the defense and protection of my country and I honor those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right wing-militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me... because I'm just not sure who I am anymore!

Funny ... itís all just taken place over the last 10 years; prior to which I had no confusion or delusions about myself.

As if all this nonsense wasnít enough to deal with ...

Now Iím not even sure which toilet to go into!

I plan on staying strong and marching to the teachings of God, mom and dad, grandparents, uncles and aunts, and my education back when they didn't teach to the test!

You don't hear it much anymore, but I grew up with the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."

Wearing a badge, there were times I got called everything that could be imagined in my worst nightmare. There were times I sincerely considered physically readjusting some bad attitudes. There were times I was glad I didn't carry a gun. Nowadays, I could care less what label some snowflake wants to hang on me. I always smile and say to myself, "It's really a good thing you didn't cross paths with me when I was much younger and not nearly so civilized."

I have avoided the OPís predicament. I simply do not give a damn what people call me or hate me for. I just continue to be me.

What you describe is "identity politics" which is a trend nowadays. It has been trendy in the past and it comes and goes. All racial, ethnic, religious and gender discrimination is partially based on identity politics. Communism and Nazi Anti Semitism were both partially based on it and they were much more dangerous that what is going on today. In the late 60's it was pretty strong with the various counter-culture movements. I acknowledge all the things the OP said and I don't like them any better than he does. But I put it in perspective. It's happened before and it will happen again and I know who and what I am, so I never have to ask, "Who am I?"

I am so good at being me and not caring if other's like it or not, I have people asking me how I do it.

I don't train to fight some street urchin, I train to fight the evil version of myself, and that person scares me, because I know the time I put into my training on how to beat him.

OldChap, I did exactly the same......35 years of L.E. will make you sure of who you are and give you the confidence to deal with all the curve balls thrown at you! I suspect that it would be a bad day at bad rock if one of the snowflakes laid hands on either one of us!

Due to my career aspirations, it IS important to me how I am perceived by the public to a certain extent.

However, my thoughts, feelings, and lifestyle choices do NOT require the validation of anyone else. To me, validation is what the cute guy does with the parking ticket at the social events I attend.

Life has been a very difficult road for me to follow at times. Nobody else has ever walked in my shoes.

I resent those who 'feel' I'm somehow obligated to agree with their moralistic opinions, and that my actions have to meet with their personal approval or I'll forever be labelled a 'bad girl' by society if I don't... Screw them!
