Always liked a bait caster. However before I learned the whole thumb on real I created a few very comical birds nests.

Different tools for different jobs, but I don’t use any of the closed face reels.

I've always prefered the balance of an open face reel.

    For trolling: baitcaster.
For general casting, panfish & trout: open faced spinning.
For casting, big fish that run: baitcaster.
For Alaska river fishing: 9 wt fly rod w rimmed fly reel.
    For Alaska halibut: Penn electric.

Them old Zebco's were casting machines we use throw a bunch of weights on ours and try casting all the way across the
pond to the bank on the other side.

Open face. You'd be surprised at the size of some sharks I've hauled in on little bass rigs. I have one little Zebco I keep around if the grandkids ever get the urge.
