    Surprise WWII BOMB

Not to make fun of our brethren in the UK, but really. Can you imagine the surprise of the EOD unit called to this fiasco?

"Luckily, upon closer inspection, it is a giant glittery Christmas bauble!" police said.

Darn Brits. They need the Bomb Squad to tell the difference between a giant Christmas ornament and an unexplored bomb? What's next? An unexploded giant Easter egg?

You wouldn't believe the things EOD gets called out to. But we always took the stand of "better safe than sorry!", beats playing "You Bet You're Life" with the thing.

I am not surprised. They roped-off an entire London block when a live .22 short was found in the gutter.

That looks like the bomb being held by the ordinance crewman in the photo below, although the "box" part appears to be missing. There are numerous old WWII bombing ranges around West Texas where they trained bombardiers during WWII. I found several practice bombs that looked just like that one when I used to go out hunting jack rabbits. I notified the rancher, but I have no idea what became of them. Here is a page on WWII ordinance.

They find old ordnance in the Ft. Pierce beach area frequently. It the site of the WWII UDT training.

Why @OldVet ...He is a handsome devil...not at all like you....ugh....errr.....well forget it!

I've read about those guys. What they did in transforming those battle-scarred islands into bases for B-29s is nothing short of miraculous.

My wife and I had the great fortune to film the Belgium EOD divers for 2 days back in 2009. One of the coolest group of guys I have ever met. They were recovering phosphorous mortars from WWII out of a river where they had been dumped. Their instructions to us before we started filming was, "If any of these start to smoke, run. Don't stop running until you can't run anymore..."

Here's a good one: Home Depot, Wichita, KS, this past Feb. Two customers were in the men's room when a third guy in one of the stalls said, You all need to get out of here because Im fixin to blow it up. Both guys laughed because they realized the guy in the stall was just warning them he was about to take a massive, probably stinky, defecation.

One of the men told the story to some friends who were working in the store, just to get a laugh, but someone took it seriously and called the police. The explosive defector was never identified.

I understand they detained the Easter Bunny last year on suspicion of distributing unhealthy snacks.
