    Fire in the Superstitions

These pictures taken of the western edge of the Supes. Just 10 miles from the house. 30K acres burned, started by a human being careless. We've lost several 150 year old landmarks like Reavis Ranch, and Tortilla Flats may burn to the ground [ an old stage coach stop in the late 1800's ]. Gold Canyon can be seen nestled up against the Supes in the last picture

Link is picture of Tortilla Flats

Back in 1980 when I went to the NCO Academy at Norton AFB there was a forest fire in the San Bernardino Mountains, very terrifying to see up close especially at night. Hope they can get that one under control before too much more is lost.

Argh. I hate when people are the cause of these things. It's one thing for Mother Nature to do her thing but quite another for stupidity or intentional acts to be the cause.

Well, crap - hadn't heard Tortilla Flats was at risk!

The news always talks about how many acres have been burned. For those who are not numerically inclined, 30 thousand acres equates to about 47 square miles - an area larger than Miami amd approaching the size of St Louis and Washington, DC. Not a trifling area!

    Update:

They've got the fire under control in a small area, Reavis ranch and the orchard were burned through, but just the low laying scrub, pretty much trees and structures unscathed. Haven't heard more on TF.

Praying it can be contained soon!

    Update

    Update from AzEIN.

They seem to be getting a handle on it with no towns threatened, at present.

This area hasn't burned in decades, providing a ready fuel supply.

When a human knocks the hot end off of his/her cigarette & burns a little hole in Grandma's sofa....that's careless.

Being responsible for torching 47 square miles of the planet...the word "careless" is much too polite.
