Can socialism/communism happen here in the U.S.?

Personally, I think the U.S. is on the road to socialism. Maybe not in the next 5-10 years, but somewhere down the road, I think it's going to happen. Why? Because I look around at our seven nephews and I know that four out of seven think that's the way to go. The remarkable part of that is that one is an attorney, one owns his own business, one works for a television network (NBC - Nobody But Clinton - no surprise there) and only one is marginally employed. Of the other three, one is a Libertarian, and the two others I am not certain about.

My remaining aunt and uncle, and all their kids and spouses are ardent Democrats. Looking at what has happened to California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado, and what is happening in Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Montana, and other states that are receiving an influx of liberals, I think its inevitable.

Here's a pretty amazing article from a man who grew up in Venezuela and observed the changes there.

My Socialist Hell: 20 Years of Decay in Venezuela

CARACAS ó Venezuela, my home country, has it all: beautiful and breathtaking landscapes, abundant resources, even unique wonders of nature like the Angel Falls or the Catatumbo Lightning.

Yet if youíve heard our name in the news recently, itís as the subject of tragedy: toilet paper shortages, desperate people scavenging through garbage to find food for their families, bread lines, a systemic failure of our public utilities, dogs flayed in broad daylight for meat, corruption, lack of proper medicine and health access, weighing stacks of cash, and so much more.

Can the US become a Socialist country?

Depends on who wins the next one. I wouldn't put my money on ANTIFA and company.

Unless the universities stop hiring Marxist professors, or people stop sending their children to be brainwashed by those Marxists, yes it can happen here.

The University of California had a high number of Marxist professors teaching there even back when I went to school there in the early 70s.

I wonder if Marxist professors and their student proteges are skilled marksmen?

Which brings us back around to the original question.

California will be an accurate example of how socialism will fare in the rest of the country.

I am sure you are right, but certainly there are other states that are competing for that honor, like Oregon, Colorado, etc.

The left will keep upping the push until the push-back becomes more than they are up for. It's simply a question of how much push we are willing to take before responding. I believe things will become even more interesting after the next presidential election.

Can socialism/communism happen here in the U.S.?
Sure it can. It could happen following a complete societal breakdown. That's no doubt why the extreme left works so hard at making that happen. There's method to their madness.

One election away from becoming communist California, New York, or New Jersey. All the Democratic presidential candidates are calling for it. The Democratic party has come out of the closet as a whole, calling for it. Yup, coming soon to a city near you.

I argue that the US is pretty close already, depending on how you define "socialism" and there is some disagreement on that. Consider this: Bernie Sanders, an avowed socialist, publicly decried Elizabeth Warren as "being a capitalist" in a TV interview. Can you imagine any major candidate, any candidate that had any chance, even 20 years ago admitting they were a socialist, much less criticizing other candidates for not being socialists?"

The orthodox definition of socialism is it is a system in which the state owns the means of production. I think a more modern definition is it is a system in which the state owns or controls the means of production. In our country today, the government exercises all kinds of controls over supposedly capitalist, "free" enterprise and seems to be open to expanding that control at its whim. This goes from major controls controls on big corporations, down to trying to control whether a baker has to bake a cake for a gay wedding.

I think despite what Sanders says, we will definitely cross the line with what Warren is proposing. She wants to force all big corporations with unions to have 40% of their BODs be union representation. And she wants to repeal the Taft-Hartley Act, which will take almost all restraints off unions and make it very possible to unionize nearly everything. So if BODs control the means of production for a company and the government can dictate who is on the BODs, they are substantially controlling the means of production. All the government then has to do is pander to the union members and pressure the weaker non-union members when it wants something.

Also, the US government now devotes over half of the federal budget to entitlement programs, programs that the government is not charged with by the Constitution. If a government can take the spoils of a substantial part of production and then turn around and spend over half of it on optional activities that help keep it in power, I think that is getting pretty close to socialism.

So if you really want to see if socialism is possible, take a really hard look at where we are now, versus where we started.

If itís suppose to then it certainly will, if itís not then it wonít.

I donít worry about it at all, live life, pray and vote!

Not being sarcastic, here is why I say that; Iím not religious and donít even like religion. That being said, Iím a Christian and live by what the Bible says and Gods word. [personally I believe that religion is made by man, faith and eternal life by Jesus].

President Trump is a fine example of how this works IMHO, nobody, including him thought he would win over hitlery.

So it might or might not, dontí worry be happy locked and loaded cause every little thing is gonna be alright 🎶

This is a true problem, saw it myself when I went back to school around 2008. Schools are the most liberal places Ive ever been, the books are full of lies. You can read some of the books required reading on Amazon book if your interested. Ck out college Psyc class books, history books - no way a kid would learn the truth.

Childrens books too, two daddy penguin family? Seriously? 😐 you want my (our) kids to LEARN this?! Iíd rather have my kids ignorant to that mess.
