Oh my what to do with all these family “treasures”? ...sigh....

This is a discussion on Oh my what to do with all these family “treasures”? ...sigh.... within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; Goodwill? no. Pure profit for this profit-making "non-profit." Salvation Army or DAV would be my first choice. Or a garage sale....

Don't even think about donating the heirloom Arby's holiday glasses-save those for the grandkids.

If you know the stuff is valued by a charity, the decision is easy. Otherwise, end of the driveway or dumpster. Don't get caught up in adding others people stuff to your pile of stuff.

    AMEN!

    Couldn’t agree more.

...that being said, we do have more Polish Pottery coming tomorrow, beautiful usable art

Have her watch a few episodes of “Horders” that should take care of it, did for me! Was not even ever close to that bad however I did come from a mother and grandmother that were “Organized horders” but it was because they were poor growing up I believe. They kept everything because “somebody may need it some day”. Those two really did pass a bunch down to me but there were some antique treasures in them I’m glad to have now - just gotta get rid of the overload.

That reminded me of when my oldest step son's house burned down. He, his wife and 3 kids wound up staying with us for a couple of weeks, having lost most everything in the way of worldly possessions. However, they still had each other! And, living in a small semi-rural town, our basement almost immediately started filling up with donations from the people in the area, to replace the things that had been lost to the fire. No one had to put an article in the paper or contact a charity. People just came and brought things: Bedding, silverware, pots and pans, dishes, etc. Piles and piles and piles of useful things!

Yes, they had insurance. After a couple weeks the insurance company moved a trailer onto their farm property so they could live "at home" until the burned house was cleared off and a new one built.

All of this is to agree with Sister's "quote comment."

Thanks! They do have a few here, other side of town like everything else lol. They do have pick up though and that’s a good thing! 😃

I gave 17 large boxes of “things” away years ago to the Catholic organization that helps others (sry I’m not catholic so don’t know what they refer to it as) and never missed anything in the boxes.

Scaling down is good, we’re getting to where there is nothing around us but guns, ammo and lots of Polish Pottery
