    Was your Thanksgiving dinner pleasant?

I was dreading Thanksgiving at my mother-in-law’s this year as my wife’s mother, aunt, and three of our nephews are all flaming liberals. Fortunately this year, everyone avoided the topic of politics entirely, which was a relief for a change. In the past, some of the discussions got a bit out of hand. I was greatly relieved when the topic of politics, hunting, and firearms, did not even come up.

How about your family dinner? Was it cordial or did the discussions become heated?

Yes, very cordial. This year, it was just me and my wife. I think that may have had something to do with the lack of drama.

@G26Raven glad that your worry over the get-together didn't pan out. I heard once that way over half of what we worry about never comes to be, a small percentage occur but aren't as bad as we thought they would be, and the rest of the things we don't have any control over anyway.

At the Thanksgiving meal and get together we attended everyone was cordial. Politics didn't come up to my knowledge. We were invited to our friends home (bless them for their graciousness!) and had 23 attending, which is about half the norm due to house construction and renovations that were underway. Everyone ended up in one of three groups. I was with the group that was discussing the recently ended Missouri Firearms Deer Season, our elk poaching problems, and hunting rifles. We had some different views on what the best cartridges and rifles were for deer and elk, but with the opinions expressed based upon our own experiences and not what other people were spoon feeding us, we had respect for each other's opinions and looked at them with open mindedness and respect.

I refused to engage in any political talk. I refused to talk about the economy, abortion, voting rights, immigration and a dozen other things. I like peaceful family get togethers. I being the patriarch and having the mentality of a Marine staff sergeant did compel everyone to talk about ny four wonderful grandchildren and how we could make the world better for them. There were no arguments, only debates. No blood was shed and no egos were shattered. I got four big hugs from the grandkids and that sealed it for me. It was a great Thanksgiving.

We had five adults and two teenagers. Three of the adults are very conservative gun carriers. Two of the adults are very liberal anti gun. Politics and the Second Amendment never came up.

Thanksgiving at the Assisted living facility with my Wife and Daughter. Being the youngest in the facility she sometimes has trouble identifying with the other residents. Thankfully no drama though.
This is our first not spent at home or at a relatives. Definitely appreciate someone else doing all the work, but it lacked the closeness of being surrounded with Family.

I wore my Red " Make Them Cry Again 2020" hat, and no one talked to me at all! It was wonderful!

My concerns were based upon previous holidays, where I was asked if I "enjoyed killing things." Another time I was accused of subscribing to anything the NRA espouses. One of my brother-in-laws got into an argument with my wife's aunt over whether or not Obama was a Muslim. The list goes on....

So, there was some past history there that leads me to be cautious and wary whenever I have to go there.

No one at IHOP brought up any politics, so in that regard it was a quiet Thanksgiving dinner, except for someone's child who cried and screamed throughout his dinner because his parents made him eat turkey instead of a hotdog.

Our nearest family is 500 miles away, and we didn't really feel up to traveling.
