    Just not the same

Christmas will not be the same this year... Pops has been gone since 04 and now
Mom is in a memory care facility due to dementia.
We are gonna go see her and spend a night with gifts and dinner with her.
But she is 60 miles away from family and due to violent outbursts the family agreed
probably not a good idea to pick her up and bring her to the house.

I knew dementia was nasty but until i saw it first hand in my mom i had no idea how
    bad it can be.

Experienced it with my Nana. It is frightening.
Last time i saw her she did not know who I was, she thought I was one of my sisters old boy friends coming around to cause trouble.
I pray I do not go out like that.

I feel your pain. I have two(Mom and Aunt) here with me, both well into their nineties.

Sweet or nasty? You never know one day/hour to the next.

Deaing with aging parents is not easy. My wife's mother does not have dementia, but is very cantankerous. My wife is exceptionally kind and loving and her mother basically treats her crappy. Every once in a while I come close to wanting to smack my mother-in-law up the side of the head but I know I can't intervene.

I really am sorry to hear this, hope things can change for the better, at the very least for that one day.

I am not worthy to even be in the same room with OldVet.

    Sorry Brother,

Growing up all my Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Grand Parents, and Parents got together for every holiday. Then my older cousins had kids, now some of my 2nd cousins have kids, it got to be a problem to get everyone in the same place at the same time, so the lesser holidays got dropped or became occasional. Lost both Grandparents, then two uncles and my mom. I've just been going through the motions the last few years and didn't even attend our family Christmas Eve dinner last year. They have just become days off now that I do mostly the same things I do with any other day off.

Family is starting to get replaced with close friends.

Sorry for your mom's situation. I guess we're fortunate that her mom isn't violent except on the rare occasions when she has to go pick up the kids and we tell her there are no kids to pick up.

I know what you mean. Both of my parents passed in 2002, Mom in January and Dad in June. Even as a I became an adult they made Christmas special for us. I miss them every year. Cherish their memories. Family is special, be it father, mother and siblings or your spouse and children. Treasure the moments, keep them in your heart.
