Not for political discussion, but I do have a question.....And I have read the forum rules :)

What is it about politics these days that distracts everyone from everything else?

I went to Facebook today, almost everything about politics, I went to gun forums today, lots of politics. I went to an RC forum and an electronics forum this morning, and people try to weasel politics into a discussion about MOSFETS and H-Bridge configurations.! I looked to see if I got a response on an Arduino forum and of course..people had to throw a political comment into my thread there! I gave up on the 3D printing forum I use to go to.

I logged my miles into STRAVA..again, comments about politics.

Can't I just wake up in the morning and see something different for once!

Rant over and thank you for your time :)

I think a lot has to do with the severe division between the parties and people are just fed up with it and want to vent their frustration.

Politics is the new religion. Many feel compelled to testify. All sides have equal levels of hypocrisy. The only difference between one side and the other is the certainty that their hypocrisy is more righteous than other. Oops, was that a political comment.

Because our entire country is becoming polarized, and failed states are having people leave to go to functional states and spreading the misery.

The reality is we are estranged. We have reached the point where we probably just need a divorce from one another but we are all busy jockeying for who gets the house, the car and custody of the kids...

Sadly, the progressive commie left will ultimately not want to divorce. They will be like Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction", not accepting reality, trying to force the conservative and moderate right to see it her way, and would rather burn down the house than let us go.

I hate discussions on both as it's always "I'm right and everyone else is wrong." I doubt there is ever much swaying of opinion.

I've avoided political discussion for most of my life, but these days it just seems that there's so much more at stake regarding where our country could wind up if the left wins, and I have felt compelled to involve myself more in understanding and discussing the issues. It's almost like the old days of Reagan sounding off against the dangers of communism, except now the threat is right here walking among us.

People are of the feeling, and rightly so that their elected representatives do not listen to them anymore.
So this is the only way that they can get their opinions out.
Politics are very polarizing. But as the Greek Philosopher Pericles said
"Just because you do not take an interest in politics, does not mean that politics will not take an interest in you"

That's part of it, but equally critical is the fact that we're dealing with an entire generation (or two) that have been completely indoctrinated into socialist thinking, but they don't understand the final outcome of a socialist state. So they're pushing hard for their free stuff, and the rest of us are pushing back hard against the authoritarian police state that would result from it. Add to the mix the hard left bias of the mainstream media and it's a real mess.

I live just outside of Seattle, so I'm hopelessly outnumbered by snowflakes. I keep my thoughts to myself and stay armed at all times.

There is a division between 2 philosophies that is greater than I have ever seen in my lifetime. I grew up watching newsreels of people diving through barbed wire and dodging machine gun fire to get away from East Germany and socialism. Growing up at the height of the cold war, there was never any debate among average Americans that communism/socialism was a horrible, oppressive system. Now, it seem that a sizable percentage of our citizens have lost that clarity. What makes it worse, to me, is that technology has advanced to the point where, if we ever lose control to an authoritarian government, we will never get it back. There is much at stake, and the tactics of the left increasingly indicate they will go to any length to "transform" our country into their utopian vision. Passions on both sides are high, because the stakes are so high.
