Exclamation Facial recognition, NY Children R the test subjects

This is messed up! Thought this was in the future but no itís happening now. If I had kids they would be pulled out of that school in a NY minute. Elementary school at that?

ĒPublic SafetyĒ my behind! Itís call invasion of privacy and should be illegal
    ************************************************** ************************

The Lockport City School District turned on the technology to monitor whoís on the property at its eight schools, becoming the first known public school district in New York to adopt facial recognition, and one of the first in the nation.

The district, said Mr Shultz, 62, ďturned our kids into lab rats in a high-tech experiment in privacy invasion.Ē
The decision underscores how facial recognition is spreading across the country and being deployed in new ways in the United States, as public officials turn to the technology in the name of public safety.

Pretty soon you are going to have to put on a latex mask to leave your house.
And everyone thought that Marvin in the movie RED was nuts. He was right on target.
Someday they will not even need the cameras, just do it all from the satellites

Not so fast. If you cover your face to conceal your identity in VA, even if you are committing no other crime, it can be a Class 6 felony. There are exceptions for holiday costumes. I don't know how many people have gotten a felony conviction over it, but I do know the Richmond police have enforced it.

While I understand, and support, the Constitutional arguments, I don't know how many who make such arguments have ever been on the receiving end of calls from frantic parents about their child who has been abducted (kidnapped and much worse). Any tool that aids in the rapid recovery of that child is worthwhile. And of course, it goes without saying that data from that search should not be stockpiled for the wrong reasons.

On the other hand. Those who are worried about facial recognition should just follow the lead of such notables as Burt Reynolds.

I am truly sorry I ever was so foolish as to open this huge can of worms about using lasers to identify people by the vibrations of their heartbeat. I should have taken a smart pill and gone to bed.

@sdprof ; I like it! Need to find my ďBeeDazzlerĒ and some shinny beads!

@OldChap ; Sir, I have a whole different take on these panicking parents. If folks have so many children they canít be responsible for thenm then they need to put them up for adoption. I have no use nor am I tolorant of lame people that expect others to put up with children they are not mentally capable of raising.

Raise them or sell them itís not my responsibility AND others donít need this eye-in-the-Sky nanny state that is trying to be imposed AND USING CHILDREN....thatís just SOCIALIST, we have folks that are running for that now - this is flat out communism !

Someone asked before about how can they match up heartbeats to people without knowing who they are. Well, just look at all of these databases. What prevents a company or Government from shooting a laser at people to capture an HR and match it to face.

I am not a tinfoil hat guy. Everything I have feared for the last 20 years is coming true. I have a very good handle on technology and know how far it can go and how it can be abused.

I am not picking on this person with this statement (and I agree with it to some extent. But how often have heard this phrase or something like it from liberals and anti's:

Any tool that aids in the rapid recovery of that child is worthwhile
Paraphrasing: it is for the children.

How about face paint, would that count as a "mask" or is it "makeup"?

Sort of strange when people who legally carry a gun state they would never need the services of law enforcement. If I was in command of a company of Marines, I might never have need of a cop.

On the other hand, Mr Murphy is always lurking. Criminals are always skulking around. Armed robbers and home invaders are always searching for an easy target. Kidnappers and extortionists are always on the lookout for a rich target. Parents daily do the best job they know how and frequently things happen that are beyond their control.

Ultimately though, I am interested to know how an armed kidnapping of a child is simply a result of a poor job of something or other. I suppose that will offer a fair explanation as to why so many wives and women are beaten, abducted, and murdered by their husbands, psychopaths, or at the hands of human traffickers. Simply a matter of someone not watching them closely enough. No need for police, courts, or prisons. Just better training on how to be a watchful husband? Lock 'em up or sell 'em. It isn't our responsibility to find them.

I fear the price of freedom is quite high enough already.

Ok, the first answer is easy- all that bad stuff you wrote about, you wanted to know why and I feel silly telling a chaplain this, but sir we both know why, a fallen angel and sin. Itís sadly that simple.

Now a Question in putting this back On Topic; What does any of that have to do with invading folks privacy? This is mark of the beast stuff in my book and Iím honestly shocked that your for it?

Maybe a missed a post or two, but where did someone say we did not need police, prisons, or courts? I thought all the comments were about further erosion of privacy which is a different topic. I am all for LE. courts, and prisons. They just need to obey the Constitution and not get enamored with the latest gadgets.

A quick side: I highly doubt I would ever rely on LE for a home invasion or armed robbery to protect me. Maybe to investigate and find the ones that get away

Armed robbers and home invaders are always searching for an easy target.
