Another University of Oklahoma professor uses the N-word

There were two professors that used the N-Word recently. The first one, IMO, the guy was an idiot. But whatever. You do not need brains to be a college professor I guess; or at least common sense.

    First professor:

Harroz said the latest incident occurred before the university had a chance to roll out its action plan following the uproar almost two weeks ago, when another OU professor apologized after telling his students that saying "OK, boomer" to someone is the same as calling someone "n***er."
That is just plain dumb in this day and age. Whatever as the kids say. What bothers me is the second incident.

A history professor issued a "trigger warning" before reading a "historical document that used the 'N-word' repeatedly," the university's interim president, Joseph Harroz, Jr. wrote in an apology.
"It is common sense to avoid uttering the most offensive word in the English language, especially in an environment where the speaker holds the power," Harroz said in a statement posted to the university's Twitter page.
It sounds like she was reading something that pertained to the class, was not her words, and even gave the class a "heads up" what she was going to be saying. A teacher should not be glossing over a document just because it is PC to do so. This was in a college History class, not like it was a Kindergarten class she was teaching.

Sometimes I just think my head will explode.

    ETA: mild rant over

So in teaching history, you have to change the historical text to appease the sensibilities of today's society.
It is not like the teacher was using it to describe a student in his class.
They are going to need a bigger "safe space" at OU.
Glad one of my son's went to Oklahoma State! And the other one is an AGGIE.

What is seriously annoying about this is that the music all these snowflakes listen to likely have nothing but the word ***** in it. For those that aren't familiar with hip-hop here's a single example, there are many more, I just put the link to the lyrics, NSFW if you play it out loud>

PS: I don't listen to this type of music voluntarily. I am subjected to it through my job.

When I went back to college one of the required books to be read before class was “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, I forget how many times the instructor apologized for the wording. My thought on the matter was the book was written in the 1800s and that was how people spoke so get over it.

That word has a completely different meaning now than it did when I was growing up back in the 70s and 80s. Of course, so does Socialism, so I guess it's just one more item in a long list of things that have been distorted beyond comprehension.

Socialism has one meaning. It didn't change. You've just saw the end result in places like Venezuela. But it still meant the same thing in 1970 as it does now. Same with the n word. It has a bad meaning now and it did then. People accepted more then but that doesn't make it right.

Venezuela hasn't made it through to the end result yet. The Soviet Union, however, did. And I grew up fully aware of what socialism was all about. People these days are blissfully ignorant of several critical points about it, the primary one being that socialism can only occur with a totalitarian police state to keep everyone in line. And the free stuff? Yeah, it ain't iPhones and Starbucks-it's waiting in line all morning to get groceries and hoping there's still toilet paper left when you get there. Free health care? Again, wait in line and hope that the doctors are halfway competent.

The n-word was used many times in books I was required to read in school. I don’t think anyone was offended by it. People are now looking for a reason to be offended.

That n word has always been extremely derogatory and highly offensive to the people at whom it was aimed. Nevertheless, when it is part of historical writings, IF prefacing the reading of such with acknowledging the fact of how the word was used and its impact is not enough - why not skip reading the thing and let the students read it on their own if they choose........with a trigger warning?

I am NOT being PC. I have no use for the current crop of violence-prone 'snowflakes'. I am trying to be practical.

That is not the only highly derogatory word used over the years to describe a group of people. It is the most publicized and politicized one in our current day and time.
