According to an article on the website of Philadelphia Children's Hospital, as @gnius said, the vaccines that used fetal tissue were from the 1960s. Vaccines made today are from cell lines from those tissues. No new fetal cells are required. Also, those cells are used to make vaccines for chickenpox, rubella, rabies and polio. Fetal cell lines are not used to make flu vaccines and will not be used for COVID vaccines.

In fact, the COVID vaccines in development are being developed differently than traditional vaccines. Traditionally, vaccines are made up of small or inactivated doses of the whole disease-causing organism, or the proteins that it produces, which are introduced into the body to provoke the immune system into mounting a response. These new COVID vaccines are developed using "Messenger RNA" (mRNA). They trick the body into producing some of the viral proteins on its own to trigger the immune response.

I will probably wait a bit to get the COVID vaccine to see how it's going, but I will definitely get it at some point. I am at too high a risk not to and I don't want to stay quarantined for the rest of my life.

After taking the vaccine, in about a year your face will start to take on the features of a horseshoe bat.

Well I wouldn't be first in line! Three years ago I let the Doc talk me into the Pneumonia Shot, got very sick and suffered with side effects for 6 months. Never had a Flu Shot either.
So I'd probably wait a while and see how others are being affected.
As a child I went through de-sensitization shots for asthma every week from 7 to 18. Don't know as if it helped, still had attacks into my twenties. Then had them rarely. So did the shots work, or did I just grow out of it or ???

It would be great to be able to walk out into the light again and to hug our loved ones and hang with the neighbors out in the alley. Maybe the question should be if a vaccine is offered how soon would you go to get yours? How badly do you want to have a normal life again?
The news media is showing them supposedly testing the vaccines on humans already. Guess you can tell that I have been giving this some thought and the first reaction is to want to wait to see how it affects others first.
The early 1950s were so close to the end of world war two and there were a lot of people who still feared foreigners.
Dr. Salk introduced the polio vaccine and our mothers went to PTA meetings and argued for and against getting us vaccinated. There were rumors that Dr. Salk being a foreigner had reasons to want to do harm to American children. Thank God that our mothers overcame the fear of foreigners long enough to have us vaccinated and we lined up in the hallway at school and that saved so many of us from a deadly and disfiguring disease.
A lot of us are as scared now of this vaccine as our mothers were of the polio vaccine in the 50s and hope that we do the right thing.

I get a flu shot every year so why would this be any different? It is just another version of the flu in my opinion.

I went TDY to Saudi once, short staff assistance trip - maybe a week in country.
Stepped off the plane, up to the in process table, opened my kit bag ...... and discovered my shot card was missing. I had to talk them out of a complete round, using the only here a week argument.

Given that they're making an inactivated vaccine, I'd be far more concerned about lack of efficacy than any kind of harm.
Live vaccines tend to be much more potent, but are tricky to make and do actually require many years of development to ensure safety, but I'm not aware of people doing that for this virus as of yet.

Not only that, but the scale of the manufacturing for this vaccine will likely be unprecedented. I want to make sure it's manufactured in an allied country (preferably US, but UK, France, or Israel is probably fine) too. The Chinese will likely have a vaccine first, as they are absolutely using human subjects in their research, but if offered a Chinese vaccine would probably be the first time in my life that I would have to absolutely refuse.
gnius, I do not get my medical advice from lawyers. I am not an antivaxer either.
But some of the drugs I mentioned in my post Invocana, Farxiga, Jardiance drugs which have just come out in the past 7 years have the issue with some. Problem enough that the FDA issued a warning.
I am sure they took way more time to develop these drugs than what is happening with the covid vaccines.
I fear that in our rush because of the abject fear that the left and it's media lapdogs are spreading they will cut corners to get "something" out.
Would be a real kick in the pants to not get the virus but die or have serious complications from the cure.

I haven't had a flu shot since I retired from the reserves. I have rarely been sick and haven't got the flu since then. That being said I am big believer in the Shingles and Pneumonia vaccines. I am allergic to penicillin and all the anti-malarial drugs that are commonly prescribed due to having had malaria years ago. We do a lot of homeopathic remedies as well which I think work as good or better than many of the Rx's out there. YMMV!

I'm not wanting to be a guinea pig. Possible side effects that take awhile to develop, what about that.

All of the above. And I might want to sit back and watch a full 12 month season of others using the vaccine just to see how it worked for the average person. But if my employer required it, I doubt I would quit my job over it.

I had an uncle who was a butcher. Whenever we all ate out together, he would order a cheese sandwich.

As much as I'd want to wait and see, if the virus hit our household it would be terrible. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the first vaccine comes out of China. They will probably test it on people, but how long will they wait for side effects to appear and be analyzed? Just look at much of the manufacturing coming out of China now. I don't think "recalls" or "oops" works with vaccines. That virus facility in Wuhon had already been cited years ago for careless practices.
