Internet shopping, stuff going fast esp prep stuff. You ready?

    RE: Prices jumping!

After all this excitement like most we’ve evaluated what all we need and are lacking. We have made some purchases, watched lots of prepper videos (good and bad), land buying videos.

Things I’ve ordered seem to pop up the next few days at much higher prices.

It arrived today, ordered it over a week ago. Was $35 when we ordered it and already up to $60 at the lowest when we last checked.

Another thing that is going up in price fast is the Faraday bags, so far we just got them for our phones and yeah, they work! With the tracking talk it’s giving us the Hebbie Jeebies!

The Whizzie Wipes have arrived (100 pk) and a medical first aide bag. That’s another one that prices are going up fast on too.

    We got this book:

I don’t think there is anything that this book missed, you can learn absolutely anything from this book on homesteading.

Personally I had rather shop EBay than Amazon, it’s nice to be able to push that “USA BUYS ONLY” button that EBay has so you don’t find out a week later it’s coming in a few months from China.

I refues to buy anything from China and EBay helps out there.

Have you had trouble finding things on-line? Any suggestions on what we may be missing other than food/seeds (we got that)?

If you are getting into preparedness, one of the best resources touted by many is the LDS Preparedness Manual. It provides step by step information on how to prepare both basics to advance. You can find electronic copies for free on several sites, but here is the official.

What I really want to know about are Ham Radios. Think you have to find meet up groups or something, don’t know much but want to learn.

Panic buying driving up prices over something that may or may not be imminent. I'm slowly accumulating supplies. If they get too expensive I won't buy.

I'm not overly concerned about prep stuff. I'm not quite in the position to be looking at buying land, although I probably should look at some of the videos. I've slowly started accumulating a few things along those lines. I'm more concerned about just making sure I have things laid in for something more along the lines of a natural disaster that makes things difficult for a few weeks to a couple months.

We haven't really had that much trouble finding anything we want online or in local stores, including TP, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies and food. Sometimes it takes some searching, sometimes we don't get the exact brand we want and sometimes we have to wait a week for delivery, but we always get what we need.

We have way stocked up on food. We have an ample supply of good water. We live right next to the county's reservoir and it is not fenced. I also have purification and water storage gear. We have the ability to cook food without electricity for a good long while. If our phone backup batteries run out, I have two USB ports on my motorcycle that will charge them for very little gas. I also keep a good supply of gas.

I don't have a ton of ammo for my guns, but I would have to get in multiple big shootouts to run through what I have and I don't see that happening. You know, I only expect two or three gunfights max, LOL.

The infrastructure around here is pretty much functioning as is and we are in Phase 1 of reopening. We should be completely out of restrictions by the end of June or middle of July. I am not at all happy about these restrictions, but we will get through it fine. I feel bad for those who are not doing as well.

Try finding logitech webcams... Some are back on the market, but not many. Decent headsets for use at home have gone up in price. I paid $27 a piece for some MPOW headsets to use at work. My old personal headset finally broke, and I bought the same MPOW ones for $35 a few weeks later.

These are items that were cheaper, and plentiful to find prior to this shutdown. These are items to use for remote work. They were bought up not because of panic, but because of necessity caused by the panic.

I am mostly just adding to food storage.
Recently bought two extra filters for the Berky water filter.
Adding to AA & AAA batteries.
I do expect that the "recovery" if and when it happens is going to take much longer than most folks believe.
I think that we're probably going to be on a long - trending downward slide.

I could be wrong - I hope that I am.

I will actually feel ecstatic to be wrong.

I learned to prep from what some guy from Venezuela was posting on media. Then seeing that liberals in our country were taking a socialist attitude so I started doing a little prepping a few years ago.
I got a generator and some lights and batteries, installed a security system and started an emergency food supply and drinking water. Plenty of fuel and ammo. I reasoned that we could need some smaller currency if it came down to needing cash and the banks were closed. Those are the kind of things that are a lot harder to do after there is a national emergency.
So we weren't in the worst shape when the pandemic hit and we have been able to avoid contact with people and not have to run to a store every day.
I think that knowledge is about as important when it comes to survival as about anything that you can have and I have been thinking about survival for long enough now, that I have a few things figured out.

Well, I did finally clean out my deep freeze, amazing what was in the bottom.
And replaced the seal. The Mrs has been wanting a vacuum food sealer And got it. Now I get to figure it out.

We were in good shape with food and water before things went wonky. Fresh items have been in short supply locally. Some ammo that I don't load for (12 gauge) has been in short supply, but I have more than enough to get by short of an invasion by the Red Chinese.

I have had the "Back To Basics" hardcover book for quite a few years and recommend it for anybody serious about homesteading or prepping!
