“Many of the public that encounter these often report them, thinking that they look like a baby alligator well away from the water,” said John Jensen, an official with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, in a post on May 8.

“They eat just about anything they want, plant and animal matter,” Jensen added.

The tegus, which can grow up to 4 feet long, poses a threat to protected native wildlife, including American alligators and gopher tortoises. The black and white tegus have been documented using gopher tortoise burrows and eating tortoise and alligator eggs, as well as the tortoise young.

Pessimists of the world, unite! I read an article lately that pessimists live longer. Probably because they don't step outside during severe lightning expecting to see a rainbow.

One of my officers working for me at the PD had to shoot 2 monitor lizards after they attacked a couple of small dogs that lived in the subdivision. A few tree-huggers were upset that we didn't have animal control catch alive.

Got news for you. That must be in cicada years, because they come out every human year here.

Never considered Fredericksburg "deep south", UNLESS you been getting those Ruston, Louisiana, OR heaven forbid, them "Georgia peaches"!

Ruston, LA, home of Louisiana Tech, where Phil Robertson, Denny Duron and Terry Bradshaw quarterbacked in the good old old days.

According to Wikipedia, there are periodic cicadas, and annual cicadas. I had never heard of the annual ones.

Was reading an article about these cicadas which come out ever 17 years.
Called Brood IX. These different broods have specific geographic areas and times they emerge.
This brood encompasses Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
As many as many as 1.5 million per acre.
I thought it was interesting I never knew about the broods
