    Rear blackout sights

Tons of controversy on sights but curious how many prefer to blackout the rear sights ?? I'm sure this can appear to make that front sight jump out, but does it affect your ability to center or even out front to rear ? My old eyes are loving the Trijicon HD's with big bright yellow front, but wondering if I focus too much on those rear vials.

I black the rears out almost religiously. Even the HDs get a little sharpie. I can still see them in lowlight and it makes it easier to ID and focus on the front sight.

I like a blacked out rear or a dot/dot like the old Sig or current Kahr. I hate, I am using the word hate here, three dot sights of any kind. Just too busy and makes my eyes wander back and forth trying to line them up, too slow for me.

All my carry pistols have had blacked out rear sights. The only pistol I own that's not blacked out is my new Glock 43X as it came with their meprolight night sights. Soon as I can trade them off for some regular glock steel or blacked out rear sight they are gone.

Thinking about just taping the rears next range trip. Is the Sharpie fairly permanent or can it be removed without damage ?

I blacked out the rear sights on my S&W 640 pro, Kimber k6s, and both my XDE 45 and 9mm. Makes a world of difference for me.

I only run black rears. After a lot of experimenting, it draws my eyes directly to the front sight and I don't have any issue getting on target. I only wish I could find a red dot that didn't look like a damn starburst.

I need minimal rear sight; for all but long (20+ yard) shots in competition it's almost a distraction.

All of our pistols have exactly the same sight picture:
    • Black rear sight
    • Red-painted (on black) front sight

Whichever pistol either one of us grabs, the sight picture is always the same.

The red-painted front sight is black in low light, and non-glare bright in direct light.
The "paint" is bright red fingernail enamel, applied over white fingernail enamel.
(And I always take flak from the girls at the drugstore counter, about whether it'll match my lipstick.)

I replaced the sights on my XD last year. They had the 3 white dots before. The new night sights have a big orange dot out front, and the rear is blacked out.

It took me a long time to get used to them. I am okay with it now, but I didn't like it at first.

My wife, however, said that she likes the new sights A LOT better. She said the two dots on the rear sight previously were confusing and difficult for her (they were the same size and color as the front sight dot). The new blacked out rear sight is a lot better for her.

She is right-handed and left-eye-dominant, so I can see how the 3 dots might have been problematic for her before. I liked them, though.

I installed Ameriglo Hackathorn GL-433 sights. The rear is all black.
