    Alcan AL-7 powder.

Alcan AL-7 smokeless powder. This hasn't been available for years, but I have a 1/2 pound still in good shape.

Does anyone possibly have any old reloading data for .44 Special for this powder?

I found one old brochure on line, and when they got to the pistol loads, they didn't open the last page to see what came after .38 and .357
    _______________

I'd also like to find a load for Bullseye and a 215 gr cast swc for .44 Special

It's for an older 3" Charter Arms Bulldog. I thought I'd give this a try before I just go out and buy a can of Unique. AL-7 is just a bit slower burning than Unique.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I did some digging and found a couple AL7 loads in an old copy of Ken Water's "Pet Loads". According to the article these were worked up in a 5 1/2" barreled Colt SAA. Unfortunately these are all for jacketed bullets and the notes say Maximum or near maximum. Primer used was a Rem LP:

    180 Sierra JHP 13.5 grns = 1150 FPS
    200 Speer JHP 13.0 = 1114 FPS
    240 Speer JHP 11.0 = 961 FPS

Here's a link to that article:

Thanks, that was well worth reading. It's been many years since I read anything about Ken Water's Pet Loads. It looks from that article that AL-8, which I don't have is a little tempermantal. Sure wish an AL-7 load were to turn up. I may have to just use it up with some .357 loads if I can't find anything, or even in .45 Colt loads.

Thanks for checking. That wasn't in my 3rd Edition. I think I'll try the starting load. Waters recommended it. Be interesting to see what the little Bulldog can do.
